You can still harden your apartment, even though you have fewer options. RELATED STORY 12 Democrat Cities Make Homicide Records – Prove Gun Control Fallacy. Keep your apartment safe with these safety and security tips. You should be aware of all situations, no matter what size your home is, regardless of whether it’s a house or an apartment. There are situations that we take for granted. It’s like standing at the security doors of apartment buildings and not looking around while unlocking them. It is easy to become used to the people walking by, as there are many apartment buildings within close proximity to the sidewalk. This can lead to apathy that causes you to miss a nearby predator waiting to follow you inside. As you open the door, be aware of who is following you. Once the door is opened, make sure you get in and close it quickly. Make sure to inspect any areas of concealment if your apartment building doesn’t have a security gate. Pay attention to corners, plants, doors, and stairs. Anywhere a predator could hide and wait for you, it is worth paying attention. You should also get inside your door as soon as you reach it. If your apartment does not have a padlock installed, you should ask the landlord. This should be a must-have item in your apartment search checklist. Safety and security should be top of your list when you first look at apartments. Think like a criminal. Take a look at your apartment and imagine what a criminal would see. Is there anything that could be exploited? Are your windows easily accessible? Is your door locked with a simple chain lock or a more complex one? Is it strengthened with a deadbolt or a simple chain lock? Are your windows equipped with bars? Are your windows equipped with bars? Etc. These are the things that a criminal will also look at. They only have one job: finding a way into your apartment. You can prevent disaster by doing the research beforehand and identifying weaknesses in your security. Be thorough and honest in your assessment. Can you get in if you have locked yourself out? If the answer is yes then a criminal can also get in. Security Systems While most apartments won’t allow you to wire up a complete security system, there are still options. There are many options, from simple wireless cameras to battery operated window and door alarms. Simple security devices can help you maintain your safety. We will soon have a story with information about the different products that you can use to accomplish this. Keep Weapons Close At Hand. Always keep a weapon or two handy in your apartment. Start by buying pepper spray and Velcro. One end of the Velcro should be attached to the door frame. The other end should be attached to the pepper spray. Attach the pepper spray to the door frame. Keep a hand on the pepper spray while answering the door. If the person at your door is ill-intent, take the pepper spray off and spray. Keep your knives, baseball bats, and other tools, as well. Keep them all around the apartment. This way, no matter where you may be, you will always have the tactical advantage. Keep your gun/safety ready. Proper lighting Criminals love to hide in the dark, just like cockroaches. It is essential that your apartment has good lighting. Your house doesn’t need to be lit up like a stadium, but it should have enough light to illuminate the areas. You don’t want to provide hiding places for criminals to hide or sneak around in your home. Lock All Doors and Windows. As I said, lock all doors and windows immediately after you enter your apartment. It should be second-nature. Don’t hesitate to put your stuff down or to go through the mail. Step in the door. Shut the door. Lock the door. This should be the default. You can buy apartment-friendly locks if your apartment doesn’t have enough. Apartments have many options, including portable locks, security bars, or sash jammers. Check the View and See Who Can See You If you are looking for an apartment or if you have one already, take a look at the view from the windows. Check out the view from your window to see who might be looking in your apartment. You should check if you can see into your apartment from the street or from other apartments in the area. You must keep your privacy private to avoid stalkers obtaining information and creating a plan. Also, at night, close your curtains. If you have a beautiful view at night of the city, it is likely that the city has one too. Get to know your neighbors. Knowing your neighbors is like being part of a community. It provides security through numbers. You also learn who to look out for when you meet people in your building. Your building will also have its gossips, just like any other community. Even though I don’t like gossip or rumors, it is important to listen to them. They have one job: get to know everyone’s business. They may be able to tell you who to watch out for. You don’t have to feel unsafe at home. With the right preparation, it doesn’t have to be. Your home should be your safest place, where you can unwind from the stresses of the day. Safety is not an easy task in these times. It will make it easier to rest easy in the safety and security of your apartment.
