The fallacy of this argument is evident in the very foundation of our country. We became a nation that used firearms to defeat a dictatorial government. The Second Amendment is about protecting ourselves against foreign and domestic enemies. The events in Ukraine just reinforce the importance of an armed population. President Zelensky took emergency measures to lift firearm restrictions for citizens. The Ukrainian government also began to give firearms to anyone who wanted to fight for their country. They learned too late about how important it was to have an armed populace. Many Americans watched in horror as this was happening and shrugged their shoulders. If Ukraine had not had strict restrictions, its citizens would already have been arming themselves. Would things have been different? It is impossible to know. Any answer I could offer would be speculation. It would have made Putin reconsider any ground invasion, according to my opinion. The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, or CCRKBA, called for an armed population after Russian attacks on a maternity clinic and innocent children and women in recent weeks. Alan Gottlieb, Chairman of CCRKBA, stated on the CCRKBA site, “Several news agencies report these barbaric assaults, which should erase all doubt about the intent to the Russian invaders and the need to have every [able-bodied] citizen the tools to fight back. This is not a game about hypotheticals. Children and women are being targeted.” He reminds us not only of the need to be armed, but also sends a message to European countries. Gottlieb stated that an armed and well-trained population can defend their homeland and homes. “Right now other countries should be encouraging private gun ownership instead of preventing their citizens having firearms and being trained in their use,” Gottlieb observed. The message displayed an almost ominous forbearance, whether it was intentional or not. “We’ve heard and read criticisms from gun prohibitionists about stressing the importance our Second Amendment security of a state,” he said. “But those critics are speaking out from the comfort of currently safe nation.” A recent NBC News report stated that the Biden administration is preparing for Title 42 to be lifted. This is the public health authority used by the U.S. since spring 2020 to stop the spread and control Covid. It also prevents immigrants from crossing the U.S.Mexico border to seek asylum. Two officials familiar with the planning said that U.S. officials, governors of states, and local officials warned of a possible surge in the number of migrants. A senior official at the Department of Homeland Security says that there is concern within the agency that it will encourage more immigrants to leave their homeland for the U.S. Unfortunately, it is impossible to know where all these immigrants are coming. According to the Washington Examiner, “In 2021, more that 4,100 Russians were encountered, compared with fewer than 500 in the previous year.” The number of Russian citizens arrested in October has increased by more than 1,500.” They also stated that while the Border Patrol has historically encountered a small number of people from more 100 countries each year, the numbers from some of these countries are increasing significantly as well as the number of countries. Border Patrol agents in Del Rio (Texas) announced this week the arrests of people from all over the globe, including Syria, Eritrea, Uzkistan, and Lebanon. The Biden administration has cut our defense budget as our southern border is under attack and land war rages across Europe. According to Military Times, “Amid major land wars in Europe, the Biden administration’s fiscal 2023 budget request would temporarily shrink our active duty Army to 473,000 soldiers if enacted through Congress.” They add, “That could leave us at our smallest size since 1940 when it had just over 269,000 troops.” Other historic lows include an authorization of 476,000 in fiscal 2017, and nearly 478,000 during fiscal 1999 at the peak of the post-Cold War drawdown. While some blame budget cuts and inflation, others are at work. Particularly, COVID vaccine rules as well as woke policies. Breitbart reported that “Recruiting difficulties” have arisen because the Army began discharging soldiers who did not comply with the Biden administration’s coronavirus vaccine mandate. According to Army statistics, more than 4,000 soldiers applied for a religious exemption. However, only two were granted. Another 2,735 soldiers refused. “The difficulties are also in spite of the Army last year launching animated recruiting advertisements that highlighted women and minorities as well as the LGBT community, as previously reported Breitbart News.” The Second Amendment Saves the Day Everyday it becomes more obvious that we live in the times the Second Amendment was intended for. The wolves are begging for our doors as our government bows to the woke mob. Our national security is being controlled by the same people who believe terrorists only need hugs. This is never a good thing. It is crucial that we protect our Second Amendment rights now more than ever. Even anti-gun Democrats are beginning to wake up to the reality of what is happening and are now reluctant to change their ways. It is likely that this is just political theater in preparation for the midterms. We can’t allow the gun grabers to remain in power. They are stepping down now, but they will continue to ramp up if they remain in office. Gottlieb says that there is no wrong time to encourage private gun ownership. This is especially true as a preventative and prelude to tyranny. It is never too late to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. The game in Europe changed the moment Russian troops crossed into Ukraine and began shooting. We cannot afford to make mistakes like Ukraine about the true importance of an armed populace. We are the last bastion of freedom in the world. Everyone wants to be here. All hope of freedom and democracy around the world will end when the United States is destroyed.
