The Galco Change Carrier allows you to carry your weapon while searching for change. Also known as a “blackjack”, or “slapjack”, the sap has a long history dating back to the 19th Century. They are a club-type weapon that usually consist of a dense, heavyweight (generally led) attached to a shorter shaft. Original versions had a wooden shaft and a covered lead ball at its end. The wood handle (or sapling) gave the “sap’ its name. As the weapon advanced, sailors would weave a leadball into the end a short length of rope. The weapon was also known as a “blackjack” because it did not have a sapling (wood shaft). Law enforcement adopted new, shorter, more flexible designs made of leather in the 20th century. Its flat profile made it easy to carry in your pocket. Modern saps retain the beavertail design, and the end is usually filled with lead. Creative minds are open to new ideas, and the change holder sap found its way onto the stage. Galco’s new Change Carrier is a great example. The coin compartment has a small slot that allows you to insert change into the pocket. The snap enclosure makes it easy to carry the 3″ x 2.5″ holder on your belt. It can be placed around your belt and snapped closed to ensure it is always at hand. It’s available in black or tan and is much easier than carrying around quarters.
