Hollywood celebrities like Alec Baldwin are hypocrites, which is good news for gun lovers. They still love to make money from shooting action movies, even though they are anti-gun off-set. For our latest Real Talk segment, we reached out to you on Facebook and asked for your top movie guns. There were many great responses and the response was overwhelming. In the interest of time and keeping the article short, I chose 5 to be the top 5. Fortunately, movie sets have mastered safe firearm handling over the years. The prop master ensures that movie firearms are shot blanks and follows safety protocols. Some of the most cool movie guns are either real guns loaded with blanks, or intricate prop guns. Except for Alec Baldwin, most people are aware that firearms must be checked on set. These movies were made possible by actors and prop masters who practice safe gun handling. Without them, we might not have the best movies. 1. Terminator Lever Action Shotgun (Photo courtesy YouTube movie screencap). Perhaps the most iconic gun-slinging scene in filmdom is the Terminator flipcocking a custom 1887 Winchester lever action shotgun. This is a great bridge between sci-fi action and old west action. A futuristic cyborg races along a road on an iron-horse, flipping a shotgun, and blasting another Cyborg. John Wayne would be proud. Perhaps a little bewildered. But proud nonetheless. Rumour has it that Schwarzenegger nearly broke his fingers when he picked up the wrong shotgun on set. He instead of buying the modified version with an enlarged lever loop, he accidentally bought a shotgun that had a standard loop. He tried to flip it as he had done many times before but the torque and weight nearly broke every bone in him. 2. Clint Eastwood The Man with No Name. If I could visit a film set, it would be one from the Man with No Name movies. Those were some my favorite movies growing-up and they remain on my top ten list. My wife knows that we are watching any of these movies if they come on. John Wayne is my favorite actor, but The Man with No Name will always be my favorite movie. Clint Eastwood was known to have used two different pistols throughout the series. The Colt Single Action Army 5 1/2″ was a serious piece of hardware, but the 1851 Navy Model is just what I need. You know what I mean. Blued finish, brass accents and a rattlesnake grip. Octagon barrel 7 1/2 inches in length. What’s not love about this barrel? You can also get the Cimarron Firearms one pictured if you want to unleash your dark, mysterious side. It retains the black powder-style loading lever, but it can be converted to.38 Colt and.38 S&W Special. 3. Wyatt Earp’s Revolver From Tombstone. Like many others, the Wyatt Earp story has fascinated me since childhood. Between Wyatt Earp’s legend and the Man with No Name movies I was convinced that the cowboy lifestyle was right for me. There have been many great movies about Earp over the years, but Tombstone is my favorite. My wife and I know we’ll be watching this one if it comes on. If it’s not on cable, I might just add it in. Earp is seen holding a S.A. Frontier Buntline.45 LC with 10 inch barrel. Just typing that almost made me utter a Tim Allen man grunt. The movie firearm is based upon the Colt.45 Wyatt, which Wyatt was said to have used during the O.K. shootout. Corral. There are some who insist that he used a Smith & Wesson Model 3 during this shootout. But who cares? It is still one the most iconic movie guns. Dirty Harry’s Smith & Wesson Model 29, (Photo by YouTube movie screenshot)Let me ask something. “Do you feel lucky?” Punk, you are lucky! Even those who aren’t Dirty Harry fans (*cough* weirdos), know this line. I remember the first time I got my Ruger Redhawk.44 Mag. I couldn’t resist saying it to my target when I was shooting. It’s true, Dirty Harry wore a Smith & Wesson Model 29 but it still felt cool. Callahan carries the Smith & Wesson Model 29. This is what is so amazing about it. Anyone can be Dirty Harry and can still do so. The Model 29 is still in production today. Keep track of all your shots during the excitement. Did you fire six shots or just five? 5. Men in Black’s Noisy Cricket (Photo by YouTube movie screencap). I was moved to tears when I first saw Men in Black. Jay had the Noisy Cricket. I was certain he wouldn’t make it. Only thing that was missing was the red shirt. (OK, I’m just joking about Star Trek). Then I saw him do it and I wanted one. I was also intimidated by the idea. Who am I kidding? That thing would be a total nightmare to shoot. It would be worth it to be thrown in the trash. Do you want to shoot alien tech? Yes, please. Don’t let its small size fool your.
