The NRA confirmed that the Silver Mountain Targets electronic targeting system will be used for the High Power Rifle phase of the 2022 National Matches at Camp Atterbury in Indiana. Silver Mountain Targets (SMT), the “fourth generation” of Electronic Target System technology, is an OPEN SENSOR system that can be fitted to traditional wood target frames. It uses four sensors to precisely plot the shot location (and score value). Scores are transmitted over a WiFi network to mobile phones placed at each shooting station. The receiving devices also record the score values and shot location. The NRA has been working closely with the Indiana State Rifle and Pistol Association, as well as the Central Indiana High Power Rifle Shooters, (CIHPRS), to bring electronic targets into the NRA National Matches,” said Joseph P. De Bergalis Jr, Executive Director of NRA Global Operations. The SMT sensor technology has been proven in competition. “In 2019, the ISRPA selected Silver Mountain Targets to host our High Power matches, including the ISRPA Across the Course State Championships as well as the Governor’s Cup match in 2019.” said Charles Hiltunen, President of ISRPA. “We compared many options and found that Silver Mountain Targets was the best for our needs. We have been very satisfied with the targets ever since. “Silver Mountain Targets was thrilled to be selected for the first deployment of this technology during the NRA National Matches. David Schnelle, SMT’s director of marketing, said that the modular architecture is the most advanced in electronic target technology. The system is easily expandable and provides high reliability. The system components are powered by batteries to make deployment easier on military ranges. This also allows the system to continue to operate even in the event of a power cut. The WiFi connection between the firing line and targets is highly reliable. It can display competitor’s shots from any WiFi-capable device. Cole McCulloch (Director of NRA Competitive Shooting) stated that the National Rifle Association is happy to continue making improvements at Camp Atterbury to better serve the competitive shooting shooting community and promote the shooting sport. “With the Silver Mountain Target system we will be able run more relays in a shorter time and reduce competition and staff demands. We are also pleased that Silver Mountain Targets technical representatives will be present for the entire championship in order to ensure optimal performance and to train NRA staff members and volunteers on the technology.
