President Joe Biden has spent a lot of time decrying firearm industry’s existence. He has repeated the same lies over-and-over. He has called over 375,000 Americans who work in lawful ammunition and firearm businesses “the enemy.” But, the truth is that there are many great safety programs in the firearm industry that work. No one can blame the chief speechwriter for declaring that he is leaving The White House. The president’s claims against the firearm industry are untrue. However, it is unlikely that the president will change his mind about his gun control agenda, or the lies he tells us about the firearms industry. It would be helpful if President Biden listened to the industry’s own words. Real Solutions, Safer Communities(r), is the campaign’s name. Rose Garden Real Talk Biden was aware of the effectiveness Project ChildSafe(r) in the firearm industry. It’s only one pillar of the multi-pronged Real Solutions. Safe Communities effort. Project ChildSafe has partnered for more than 20 years with more than 15,000 law enforcement agencies across every state and territory in the United States to provide free firearm safety kits and education materials. This includes more than 40,000,000 free gun locks. This is in addition to the locks that are included with every firearm sold at retail. The total number of guns locked up exceeds 100 million. What did Vice President Joe Biden think of this program? So we can listen to his words, he let the truth slip. In the wake of Sandy Hook, Joe Biden, then-Vice President, held a White House meeting. He spoke with Steve Sanetti, then-CEO of NSSF, and referred to NSSF. “You guys are doing a lot good things, including gunlock.” This is not Joe Biden’s smokescreen. It’s what I mean.” Fast forward to 2021, and Joe Bartozzi, the current president and CEO of NSSF, spoke about the program’s successes at a U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee hearing regarding safe firearm storage. Bartozzi stated, “We know that the program works. He said that in the 22 years Project ChildSafe has existed, we know that fatal [firearm] accident rates have dropped by 40%.” While there are many factors that go into this, fatal firearm accidents have fallen to their lowest level since 1903. We are making progress, and that’s a good thing. It means we’re having an effect.” Repeated Lies The gun-owning community has grown by at least 14,000,000 new gun owners in the past two years. It is becoming more diverse with double-digit growth in minority gun owners and women. This is an inconvenient fact that the Biden administration ignores rather than embraces. Instead, they choose to soften on criminals and demagogue law abiding gun owners. Instead of regulating the firearm industry, they choose to politicize Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. In speech after speech, President Biden repeated the partisan gun control talking point from gun control groups against firearm industry. Many times, fact-checking has confirmed that his lies, which were no doubt written by speechwriters have been proven false. False claims about private gun ownership in early American colonies and home-built firearms have been made, as well as incorrectly stating that the firearm industry is “the only outfit in America.” The president’s words were called “false” as well as “wrong”. He was even urged to “stop making this claim.” Real Solutions Project ChildSafe is a successful firearm safety program. It has been highlighted in several cities, including Troy, New York, Albuquerque and Detroit. It’s not the only NSSF program that works to make communities safer. The Don’t Lie For the Other Guy(tm), initiative is a partnership between industry, the Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). It aims to prevent illegal firearm straw purchases and warn people that it is a crime that can result in 10 years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine. Operation Secure Store(r), which assists firearm retailers in enhancing security at their locations to discourage criminals from stealing firearms, is called Operation Secure Store(r). One component of the program matches ATF rewards up to $5,000 to bring to justice criminals who steal firearms. Since the program was launched, the number of firearm thefts and burglaries has declined. FixNICS(r), a campaign to improve the FBI’s background checking system, changes the law in 16 states and Congress to increase reporting on disqualifying adjudicated Mental Health Records. NSSF has seen a 266 per cent increase in state submissions since 2013. NSSF partners with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) and the Department of Veterans Affairs in efforts to have a “brave discussion” and reduce the tragedy of suicide. If the president wants to make genuine efforts to reduce criminal and negligent firearm misuse, and the resulting tragedies that result, he could work closely with an industry that has a track record of success in these areas Story originally posted on NSSF.org.
