Walther just announced the Walther Magnum Pistol, or WMP, which is a.22 Magnum optics ready handgun with a 15 round capacity. Walther may be marketing the new.22 Magnum WMP to be “ready for adventure”, without being too specific about what adventure might be. The WMP can be used for pest control, hunting or plinking, as well as self-defense. The pistol comes with two adaptor plates and an optics-ready slide. Walther does not specify which optic footprints these adaptors are intended for, but the product page shows a WMP that looks like a Vortex Viper with Docter-pattern mounts. The front post can also be used with iron sights. The.22 Magnum WMP is completely ambidextrous and features a slide release lever on both sides as well as a magazine release. The WMP actually has four activation points to release the mag, which Walther calls the Quad release mechanism. The pistol has a traditional button release on each end, as well as a Walther-style paddle release for the mag release. Two magazines will be included in each pistol. The MSRP for the Walther Magnum Pistol is $549.
