May 27, 2022Double Decker Indoor Shooting Ranges in USA & Europe. We bet you’ve never seen anything quite like it — an “double-decker”, indoor shooting range. Lotus Gunworks, Jensen Beach, Florida operates a twin-level indoor shooting range with a two-story high steel funnel bullet trap. This version of Action Target’s Total Containment Trap has been nicknamed the Lotus 8/11 because it uses eight panels on its bottom slope and 11 on its top slope. Robbie Abell, Lotus Gunworks’ founder, noted that no one had ever seen a range quite like it before. Abell created the two-story design when it became apparent that the new Lotus building at Jensen Beach was too narrow to accommodate two side-by sides ranges and a gun shop. The mother of invention was necessity… Lotus wanted at least two ranges. To remove dangerous dust and lead particles, indoor ranges must be ventilated. Carey’s Small Arms Range Ventilation created a ventilation system that can replace all of the range air every 80 seconds. The Lotus Range’s two-story bullet trap is unique. There are other multi-level ranges that have bullet traps, but they don’t have the Lotus Range. Some multi-level ranges in Europe have larger and more sophisticated bullet traps.
