Lyman Universal Press Stand Review – Strong, Quality Product

June 3, 2022Lyman Universal Press Stand Review – Strong, Quality ProductI love this press stand. It works well with my Dillon 550 and my Forster Coax. The stand allows you to mount your presses at the correct height to maximize torque and minimize fatigue. While I review some products and return them, this one is a keeper that I won’t soon be letting go of. F-Class JohnLyman Universal Press Stand REVIEWProduct review by F-Class John
Reloading is difficult because it is difficult to position your press at the right height. Many presses are too low to the edge, causing arm strain and inconsistent pressure. Lyman created a reasonably priced ($69.46 at Middlesouth) press raiser that can be used with most reloading presses. This unit will securely raise any press from your bench, allowing you more comfortable standing work. This also frees up valuable bench space UNDER your press. I have used many presses over the years. Sometimes I have had to mount a press at a level that doesn’t cause arm or hand strain during normal operations. I have used blocks of wood and even tried stands from other brands. However, I had very limited success using those options. Lyman’s Universal Press Stand was a great choice. It comes with two different top plates and side plates. There is also a wide selection of mounting hardware. Both the top plates can be pre-drilled to fit many popular Single Stage and Progressive presses. Diagrams and instructions provide guidance on which side of the top plates you should use. The holes are pre-drilled to accommodate a variety presses, including those from RCBS and Dillon, Lyman, Redding and Hornady. The plates are not pre-configured to work with the Forster Co-Ax Press, as it is surprising. CLICK TO WATCH VIDEO: Lyman Universal Press Stand

It was easy to set up the stand. The sides bolt to the lower shelf unit. At this point, attach the top plate. It was easy to install the bolts provided. Once everything was secured, I was able place it on my bench and mark the holes for mounting it. Once the stand was secured to my bench, it was time for me to mount my press. Lyman Universal Press Stand to Adapt for Forster Co.Ax

At the time of testing, I was primarily using a Forster Cox-Ax press. I was unable to find a pre-drilled Co-Ax configuration that would work with either Lyman top plates, so I customized the blank side of one of them. I placed the mounting holes so that my press could rest on top of the mounting plates and not just one edge. This was a simple process. Mark the drill holes and drill the plate. Although you can use regular drill bits, a step-bit was faster and easier to allow for extra clearance. Lyman Universal Press Stand is Strong and Stable

The stand was very stable once it was set up. The design of the stand allows for full force to be applied regardless of the operation. I have been using the Lyman Press stand with my Co-Ax as well as a Dillon 550c for several months and still love it. It is perfect in height and allows me to load as many items as I want without getting tired or straining my arm. The Universal Press Stand is affordable at less than $55.00 and features a simple design. It comes with two plates. You can swap between different presses by simply changing the plates and leaving the presses attached. It is less functional to have two presses sharing one plate. This would mean that one press must be removed before the next one can be installed. Similar Posts
