Nearly daily, Democrats call for tighter gun control. They believe that criminals will not be able to obtain guns if there are stricter background checks and more restrictive permit issuing. This belief is being challenged by a recent attempt at mass shooting in Canada, which is strictly gun-controlled.

Recent Attempted Mass Shooting in Canada: Strict Background Checks Required
It is a terrible tragedy that I have to report on. After any similar incident in the US, it is clear that mass shootings do not occur in other countries. They also assure us that stricter gun control is the solution. This story, however, disproves both of these claims in an unfortunate manner.
Daily Mail reports that people in downtown Langley (southwest of Vancouver) woke up Monday morning to receive emergency alerts. The alert stated:
“Multiple shooting scenes were captured in the downtown core of Langley, with one incident in Langley township that involved transient victims. Male described as Caucasian with dark hair and wearing a brown Carhart coverall and a blue and red camo T-shirt featuring a red logo. This suspect is associated with a white car. Police have spoken with 1 suspect. It is not known if there are any other suspects. Please be alert and stay out of the area.
Multiple shootings were carried out in Langley, and the attack targeted homeless people. Before the police killed the suspect, four people were shot with gunshots. Two victims died from their injuries, while two others are still in critical condition.
Reuters reports that there are two SUVs in addition to the heavy presence of police vehicles on the crime scene.
“Reuters witnessed two black SUVs similar to those used in police emergency response teams in a ditch close to one of the shooting locations.” One vehicle had bullet holes in its windshield.
Reuters reports that “We are still investigating to determine if this gunman acted alone.” The investigation is ongoing. However, all indications point to the fact that there was no other involvement and there is no ongoing threat to public safety,” Chief Superintendent Ghalib Bhayani, of the regional Royal Canadian Mounted Police force (RCMP), stated at a news conference.
An Increasing Problem
Yesterday’s tragic incident is not isolated to the country. Two people were killed in a shooting incident involving gangs in Whistler Village in British Columbia, Canada, the day before.
Similar to the attack in April 2020, a gunman attacked rural Nova Scotia killing 22 people. The attack lasted 12 hours, and the suspect was killed.
Statistics Canada also shows that while there was a decrease of firearm-related violent crime between 2009 & 2013, it has increased to its previous level between 2013 & 2020. This is a clear indicator that firearm-related violent crimes are on the rise in a country with strict gun control.

According to a Fox News report, “It’s now illegal to possess any type of rapid-fire weapon or unregistered handgun in Canada.” The country requires that you have completed training, a personal risk assessment and two references. You also need to be notified of your spouse and conduct criminal record checks before you can purchase a weapon.
GunPolicy.org also states that “the regulation of guns in Canada can be categorized as restrictive.”
The site also states that “In Canada, private gun ownership is not guaranteed”
It begs the question: If gun control works, then why isn’t it working? Despite a brief decline in gun violence, the country is back to where it was and seems to be increasing.
America’s leadership must recognize that violent people will find a way to violent ends when they are driven. They will find firearms to execute their deeds, no matter how difficult it is. If disarmed, law-abiding citizens are completely invulnerable to the rising tides of violent crime.
It is time to ask, who are they representing? Law-abiding citizens? Or criminals?
