DIY 6mm Creedmoor PRS Rig With Howa Barreled Action

August 16, 2022. 6mm Creedmoor is a popular cartridge for PRS/NRL competition. It also works well in varmint fields. There are many 6mm Creedmoor factory rifle options now, such as the Savage Model 10 in GRS stock and the Ruger Precision Rifle (6mm Creedmoor).Do-It-Yourself 6mm Creedmoor Rifle Project — UltimateReloader.com
A 6mm Creedmoor fan can also build their own rifle. This is possible starting with a Howa barreled-action. The Howa 1500 is a flat-bottomed, mag-fed bolt action that comes with the HACT 2-stage trigger. Brownells has a wide range of Howa barreled action options starting at $440.00. However, most are out of stock.

Gavin Gear added a KRG enclosed front-end and Mystic Precision MPOOD to his 6mm Creedmoor gun. Our friend Gavin Gear from UltimateReloader.com built this rifle using a Howa 1500 heavy barreled action and KRG Bravo Chassis. This project has been very successful. The rifle has demonstrated remarkable accuracy and exceptional reliability. Gavin hopes to use the rifle in tactical and practical competitions later in the year. Gavin attaches KRG’s enclosed front-end to the KRG Bravo chassis in this video. This accessory fore end features a top Picatinny Rail and various attachment options on its lower section and sides. The enclosed fore-end is shown in the upper right. This is next to the factory forend that came with the KRG Bravo (lower right). Gavin then attaches an EGW Mystic Precision MPod. This stable, wide-base bipod has a T-Slot rail that can be used to attach a rifle and legs that can be adjusted independently for height. The video shows how the rifle is assembled step-by-step. This is something that the average man can do with basic tools. The Howa barreled action has been pre-chambered to accept the 6mm Creedmoor cartridge. Gavin unboxes the Brownells Howa 1500 barreled Action. The barreled action is then mounted to the KRG Bravo stock and torque levels are checked. Next, Gavin borescopes (5:55) the hammer-forged barrel and notes: “What I saw I loved — there are virtually no tooling marks.” The finish on the grooves and lands looks great. Gavin also tested the trigger using his TriggerScan TS-11 (6.24), and confirmed that the trigger was pulling a total of 2.25 pounds.
