August 24, 2022. Are you interested in learning more about the Practical/Tactical Shooting Game? Are you looking for ways to shoot from unusual positions more safely? Marcus Blanchard’s Practical Shooter’s Guide is a How-To Guide for Unconventional Firing Positions. Blanchard’s book focuses on the shooting skills you need to win in tactical competitions like PRS matches, unlike almost all other “how to shoot” books. Blanchard offers clear guidance on shooting from high angles, roof-tops and from barricades. Blanchard advises that you must train for these types challenges. “I believe that the biggest factor in improving a shooter’s shooting ability is not necessarily the gear. It’s how the shooter approaches obstacles, and how they train for them properly.” Blanchard also has great tips for shooting fundamentals. Here’s an example: Blanchard on Trigger Control
“There will always be some wobble when shooting from other positions than prone. Timing the shot to go off when it is within the target is difficult when poor trigger techniques have been used. The most common mistake I have seen is “slapping” the trigger. The trigger is always hovering just above the finger. When the shooter decides it is time to fire, they quickly pull the trigger to the rear and’slap the trigger’. The trigger is never pulled in the same spot by the finger. This causes a sympathetic contraction of other muscles in the hand that can cause unwanted movement of the bullet before it exits the muzzle. Marcus Blanchard is the author. Blanchard, a Marine Corps veteran, is a regular Top 10 finisher at Precision Rifle Series events. Blanchard was ranked 8th in the PRS series overall at year’s conclusion. Blanchard won the New Mexico Precision Rifleman’s Championship in 2016.

Blanchard’s book has been reviewed by the 6.5 Guys and they highly recommend it: “What’s the best book for the beginner shooter who wants long range precision rifle? Or the intermediate shooter looking to improve his scores?” The Practical Shooter’s Guide is especially useful because it covers firing from different positions and props in long-range precision rifle [events]. This knowledge is missing in traditional books, where the shooter is often slung up and shooting at paper targets. Marcus… provides extensive information about shooting from rooftops, reverse rooftops and side slopes, as well as tank traps, barricades, and tank traps. This type of information is difficult to find. We consider ourselves to be fairly knowledgeable shooters, and this book provided us new and useful information. CLICK HERE to read the 6.5 Guys REVIEW. Precision Rifle Marksmanship
Frank Galli, founder and CEO of SnipersHide.com, has written another excellent book on PRS/NRL shooting: Precision Rifle Marksmanship. The Fundamentals. Frank Galli, a former USMC scout-sniper, explains that precision rifle marksmanship is not a matter of magic. However, there are techniques that can make the difference between great marksmanship and good marksmanship when they are practiced. Learning the reasons why a bullet hits or misses its target at ultra-long ranges is crucial. Galli’s explanations on how to compensate for wind speed, direction and other factors are excellent. Galli provides great advice on wind-reading in this book. Galli’s 2020 treatise, which was published in 2020, is four years older than Blanchard’s book. It also includes more modern gear and equipment. Galli’s book covers precision marksmanship basics using an easy-to-understand method. Galli’s live marksmanship classes use the same instruction method as this book. CLASS REPORT HERE. This well-illustrated 272-page book, which was published in 2020, covers the most recent equipment (scopes and LRFs as well as magazines, bags, magazines, books, and tripods) that tactical competitors use in PRS/NRL type matches.
