First Look: PSA Spiker Type 56 Clone

Palmetto State Armory is often criticized for teasing products before they are ever made. It’s been almost three decades since the company showed off its 5.45 “Krinkov”, AK pistol, and a release date has yet to be announced. PSA does make them eventually, and the AK-47 Spiker Rifle is their latest addition to their digital shelves. It was designed to look like the famous Type 56 AK variant in China, and it certainly looks the part. Contrary to what some might believe, the U.S. received some of the best Kalashnikov samples from China. Contrary to the substandard AKs that CCP supplied to Africa, the Middle East and elsewhere, the factories that were part of the Norinco/Polytech conglomerates understood the American market required quality. Although it is a dubious idea to suggest that PSA’s new Spiker Rifles will be equally as well made, it seems that they have done an excellent job replicating the appearance of a Type 56 stamped-receiver Type 56. This is due to the imitation “Chu wood”, the blonde, patterned after Chinese style furniture, the smooth dust cover, and the iconic folding “spiker”, bayonet that gives the rifle its name. The Cerakote shade has been applied to the metal components to mimic the bluing style of the original Chinese guns. These builds were made with cold-hammer-forged, chromemoly vanadium barrels. This is a significant improvement on the nitrided options that are included in many of PSA’s more expensive models. The 1.5mm Chinese-spec stamped receiver on the “Spiker”, Rifle, is an upgrade to the Soviet-pattern 1mm thickness. This helps to ensure authenticity and durability. This not only improves the durability but also the authenticity. The AK-47 “Spiker” Rifle does not have a side scope rail. This is a problem that PSA had incorrectly included on its soviet AKM parts kits builds. If it’s successful, it will hopefully prompt PSA to clone the Type 56-1 (underfolder) and Type 56-2 (side folder) as well. The AK-47 “Spiker” Rifle has an MSRP of $1,099 and is now in production. For more information on PSA, please visit palmettostatearmory.comMore AK Stuff:NEXT STEP: Download Your Free Storm Tactical Printable Target Pack62 Printable MOA Targets with DOT Drills – Rifle Range in YARDSThis impressive target pack from our friends at Storm Tactical contains62 printable targetsfor rifle and handgun range use.
