The 2021 Edition full-color Gun Digest Book includes key topics such as rimfire semiautos and their operation; bolt-action accuracy; match-shooting skills; DIY precision gunsmithing; hunting using rimfires; the future of the Rimfire market; and many other topics. In the past two years, every major gun manufacturer has introduced at least one new.22 LR rimfire weapon to the market. Gun Digest’s Rimfire revolution has extensive coverage of new models by major manufacturers. The.22 Long Rifle (.22 LR), is the most popular ammunition type and firearm chambering on the planet. The.22 LR is used by 3P marksmen in the Olympics, but it also serves benchrest competitors and NRL22 shooters. It also serves small-game hunters, backyard plinkers, tactical trainers, and small-game hunters. The humble.22LR is experiencing a major revival in the USA due to the increase of NRL22 matches (and their PRS equivalent). Because centerfire reloading parts are so expensive and difficult to find, many people are shooting less centerfire but more rimfire. This book covers.17-caliber rimfire ammunitions: 17 HM2(Mach 2)), 17 HMR (Mach 3) and 17 WSM (WSM). These are all excellent varmint round, with the 17 WSM being effective up to 250 yards. The 17 HM2 can be used in a standard.22 LR action, and fed from standard.22 LR magazines. A barrel switch is all that’s required to convert a.22 LR rifle to 17 HM2. This gives your rimfire rig twice as much versatility. You can shoot.22s and.17s using the same gun. There are ten times more rimfire tactical matches than NRL centerfire matches and sanctioned PRS matches. Simple reason: rimfire ammunition is cheaper and clubs can host challenging rimfire tactical matches at almost any outdoor gun range that permits shooting out to 200+ yards. NRL22 Competition — Tactical Rimfire matches
NRL22 matches are a great shooting discipline. NRL22 is a great shooting discipline that offers high fun at a low cost. Match ammo is not required to be reloaded. You can get through the match with just a couple of 50-round boxes.22 LR ammunition. Some people bring a lot of gear to matches. This is not because they have to. It’s possible to keep it simple while still being competitive (and winning). Tips for NRL22 Competitors
Jonathan Ocab
My gun club has a match director and I also manage our local NRL22 matches. I am often asked for tips on how to compete in NRL22. First, I recommend preparing the month’s course of fire in advance and practicing the stages at the range. These are some other tips that will help NRL22 competitors improve gun-handling and match results. 1. Dry Fire Practice — If you’re unable to practice your shooting position at the range, I encourage you to practice your skills at home using a dry fire. Set up props, barricades or faux targets with pasters or other materials on a wall inside or outside the house. Run through each stage. 2. Scope Magnification Level — I see the most common problem with NRL22 shooters who try to magnify their scope magnification. The timer will begin, and the shooter will position himself on a target. However, the scope magnification is set to 15x or more and the target is not visible. The shooter reduces the magnification to locate the target. After that, the scope is increased again. Novice NRL22 shooters may want to use the mid-range magnification. You can use the mid-range magnification to improve your shooting skills.
