It’s Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is the time when families get together to share their most grateful memories. Lucy, however, is home from college with bright pink hair and a full face of piercings. While she was normal before she went to college, she now wakes up looking for things that will offend her. She chose guns this Thanksgiving. What do you do if anti-gun family members want gun control to be discussed at the Thanksgiving table What do you do when anti-gun family members talk about gun control during Thanksgiving? Lucy is one example of someone who likes imposing their ideas on others. These people seem to appear out of nowhere at the worst possible times. They believe that family gatherings are a place where everyone can hear what makes them miserable. It can get tiresome. You can always leave. You can always leave, but why let them steal your joy. This is your family, too. You can always argue with them. Let’s face the facts, they love to scream, argue, and that’s what gives them what they want: everyone’s misery. There is always hope. We turned to you, the reader for your suggestions on how to handle this situation. As usual, you didn’t disappoint. Here are some of your favorites that you shared in our latest Facebook “Real Talk” discussion. Everybody is armed. This is why I love you. I am not surprised that so many of our readers are gun-loving families. It is not surprising that so many of our readers don’t have this problem. “Not my family. “Everyone has a firearm.” “Ain’t got none!” “We are all sane.” Tell the family member that they were adopted. Always a happy Thanksgiving. While some people enjoy arguing, others don’t like being laughed at. Sometimes they make it so easy that you have to take advantage. If arguing with them is not getting you anywhere, shame them. You might be amazed at how quickly they give up. “I have said, “Impressive.” Every word in that sentence are wrong. “Tell them that the NRA paid for the turkey. After dinner, sip your Black Rifle coffee. “Ask who would like to shoot. I do. You probably mean your family members at dinner. “Throw giblets towards them.” It’s not the giblets. “Try not look at them like a moron for the rest of the week.” But it’s hard to not. “Ask them whether they would like to discuss religion next.” Religion is everyone’s second favorite topic. “Load mags in desert.” They won’t load themselves. Similar to a gun that can’t fire itself. “Tell them that you will not use your gun if someone attacks you.” This seems fair. “Tell them that we need idiot control.” This could solve some problems. “Stop talking about cool guns.” “Ask someone if they will pass the CLP. I mean gravy. “You guys don’t mind me cleaning your guns while we eat, don’t you? Never miss an opportunity to educate. They may not listen, but it is worth trying to get some facts in there. Even if they don’t want to listen, it is possible to convince someone who isn’t agree with you. Consider the discussion as a debate, and use that time to convince people who don’t really know. Even if they try to scream and argue, just keep calm and state the facts. “I correct their incorrect lingo, information, and have them watch these videos:” “I ask them who would own all the guns if guns were banned. Then, I ask them if they truly believe that the nice guy who gets them their cocaine couldn’t also get them one if they needed one. I ask them to “pass the gravy.” This is Thanksgiving. Instead of getting in a fight or getting into a heated argument that could ruin a family gathering, do what you were taught as children. You can ignore them. They may continue to make a scene and make a scene. They are responsible for their actions. They may decide to stop complaining when they realize that no one is listening or caring. It’s possible for anything to happen. It’s Thanksgiving after all. “Eat my food, and watch football.”
We hope you and your family have lots to be thankful for, and that you have a peaceful gathering. Continue Reading Search The post Real Talk: Antigun Family Members Talking Gun Control At Thanksgiving appeared first on Personal Defense World.
