Assembly Diagram: This is a list of all components for the target frame. The total dimensions of the target frame when assembled are approximately 26? wide, 41? 41? inches wide, 66 inches deep, and 66 inches high. PVC pipe and connectors are the best tools to make a portable target stand. Utah.308 Shooter Cheese has created a simple but sturdy target frame. He’s shared his design so that you can easily build one. The components include wood furring strips, PVC pipes with 2? diameters (and connections) and a 2’x3?” sheet of cardboard. A sheet of cardboard is used as the cardboard. You can glue the PVC base together or leave some or all of them free for transport and storage. “Cheese” says that he didn’t glue any parts together so that he could disassemble it and put it in a bag to take it with him. “All the parts were just pushed together, not glued. This allows me to break it down and put it all in a bag. It’s also possible to have a friend (not me!) take the stand apart. If I happen to be able to photograph the stand, I can easily repair the damaged part. The furring strips’ last 6 inches have been whittled down a bit so that they can be pushed into the pipes with a little friction. I attach the cardboard to the furring strips using a staple gun. The cardboard measures 2 x 3 feet. The target is then stapled onto the cardboard. You can adjust the dimensions as you wish. I chose black ABS pipe over white PVC because it was cheaper. You can glue any or all of the pieces together, but it will be heavier for transportation. The thing can easily break down in windy conditions. Duct tape might be a good option. I thought of filling the end pipes with sand, and then gluing test caps to each end. The test caps allow the pipes to slip into their elbows. “Add Anchors or Internal weight for stability
A PVC stand can be shaken or even tipped over by windy days. There are two options. To add weight, some people fill the PVC pipe sections by adding sand. Others place short sections of Rebar inside the long legs. GlockTalk forum member: “I built a frame almost identical to this. To anchor the frame to ground, I also use four pieces of wire coathanger bent in an inverted U shape. It is so light that the stand will be knocked over by wind [without anchors]. You can see photos of a similar home-made PVC target stands (with a slightly different rear portion) on the Box of Truth website. This also uses a PVC tubing base and wood uprights. We have seen all-PVC target stands. However, we found it easier to attach the cardboard strips to wood strips than to PVC pipes. You can also use the same base, but with different height targets, if you have the upper section made of wood.
