After President Joe Biden declared that all semiautomatic firearms had “no redeeming value socially,” the White House was forced to clean up its aisle 1600.
White House Reacts to Biden’s Thoughts About Gun Control
When asked about recent murders of innocent Americans by deranged individuals in Colorado Springs, Colo., as well as Chesapeake, Va., he replied, “Zero.” None. There is no other reason than profit for gun manufacturers.
Karine Jean-Pierre, White House Press Secretary, had to quickly rebut the president’s comments.
Ban ‘Em All
It’s not surprising that President Biden made a Freudian firearm slip. Biden boasts often about his record of winning against the gun industry. This is referring to the 1994 ban on assault weapons that was passed by then-Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del. supported. Anderson Cooper, CNN’s Anderson Cooper, asked Biden about his true gun control intentions in 2019.
“To gun owners who believe that a Biden administration is going to come after my guns …” Cooper began. “Bingo!” President Biden interrupted. “You’re correct, if your assault weapon is… The truth of the matter it should be illegal. Period.”
Fast forward to a few years later, and the president has expanded his wishlist of banned firearms so that it includes the 9mm, which is the most popular selling handgun caliber among law-abiding firearm owners.
“The idea that you need a weapon capable of firing 20, 30, 40, 50 and 120 shots from that weapon regardless of whether it’s 9 mm pistols or rifles is absurd,” President Biden stated to supporters. “I will continue to push for the elimination of these things.”
It’s not surprising then, that the president spoke out when he was asked about his beliefs after the tragic shootings in Colorado and Virginia. He wants to ban semiautomatic guns, including America’s most-sold centerfire rifle and best-selling handguns. He calls them all “weapons for war”
Walk-Back Whiplash
Following the remarks of the president, Karine Jean Pierre, White House press secretary was asked to clarify. She walked it back.
“No. Jean-Pierre stated that he was talking about assault weapons. Jean-Pierre said, “That’s what it was when he answered that question.”
Jean-Pierre didn’t follow up to ask Jean-Pierre about the president’s distinction between semiautomatic guns, which he wants to ban, and semiautomatic pistols, which he includes. Gun control advocates all over the board and the administration would likely not be able to define what they mean when they refer to “assault weapons” or Modern Sporting Rifles.
It’s the same one trigger-pull, single-fire technology that has been around for over a century. It can be a handgun or a rifle, and even several types of hunting and recreational shotguns.
It’s the same definition that President Biden’s failed Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives director nominee and gun control lobbyist David Chipman struggled through during his confirmation hearing. He struggled to answer the question before finally admitting, “Senator, there’s not way I could define an assault weapon.”
President Biden can’t define it. It is not defined by the White House. It is also impossible to define it by congressional Democrats who are pushing for stricter gun control.
Time is running out
According to NSSF firearm industry data, there are more than 24,000,000 legally-purchased MSRs currently in circulation. According to industry data, law-abiding Americans have many more 9 mm handguns than they do today. Women and minorities are leading the gun-buying spree in recent years.
The growing number of Americans legally purchasing firearms can be credited to President Biden. In fact, the number of Americans who bought firearms in the first twelve months of the Biden presidency was the same as during the combined years of Presidents Barack Obama & Donald Trump.
With Congress returning to Washington, D.C., President Biden has increased his calls for his new “assault weapon” ban. But the door is almost closed. Republicans won back control of U.S. House of Representatives, and will be in the majority when the new session begins in January. U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), admitted that there aren’t enough Democratic votes in Congress to pass an MSR ban.
Gallup reported that Americans have dropped 9 percent in support of stricter gun control since June, and that their support for banning MSRs is now below 50 percent for the first time. President Biden continues denial of reality about his gun control ambitions, whether he “misspokes” or has stated his true intentions.
