The Sightmark Volta uses solar power to dramatically increase its runtime

The Athlon Outdoors Rendezvous allows us to meet new people and get new products. I was able to finally take a look at Sightmark Volta this year, while also testing other products that will remain unnamed. The Volta is a member of the fully-enclosed red dot family and has a unique combination of features that makes it suitable for dusty shooting environments such as Victor’s potato fields. The Sightmark Volta Red Dot Optic. Before I get into the details, let’s first discuss what makes this optic stand out. It has 400,000 hours of battery lifetime. This is not a typo. The optic can run continuously for 45 year on a pair common AAA batteries. Sightmark can prove this claim because the Volta ceases drawing juice from the dry cells when there’s enough ambient light to power the solar system powered via the onboard panel. This tech keeps the dot always on. This makes it perfect for quick engagements, such as self-defense or hunting situations. I had the chance to get a little bit of experience with one at the event. One was mounted to a 6.8 SPC construction that was clamped into the Kopfjager tripod. This configuration is a great way to test the rigidity of an optic. Because it transfers almost 100% of the recoil directly to the optic. I confirmed zero at 100 yards. Then, I moved closer and switched between two 50-yard pieces DOA steel. The dot remained lit throughout the test and held zero. It was also instinctual to pick up between targets. Before I walked away, I checked zero by returning to the 100-yard target area and dropping three more magazines in rapid succession. It passed. The Volta is rugged and reliable and has all the features that we want in an electro-optic. These features include auto-dimming/brightening, interchangeable mounts to get the height where you want it, and an operational temperature range to handle nearly any climate on earth. This is quite impressive for a product that costs only $299.97. Sightmark.com has more information. Sightmark Volta Solar Red Dot Optic Specs Reticle, Type: 2 MOA Dot
