January 28th 2023 Saturday at the Movies: Handguns and Ammo Testings 5.7x28mm This Saturday Movie showcase features four handguns that are chambered for high-velocity, 5.7x28mm cartridges. A 5?-6? The 5.7x28mm round can reach very high velocities in a barreled pistol compared to a 9x19mm (9mm LUGGER) or.40 SW. The 5.7x28mm bottle-necked cartridge weighs approximately two-thirds less than a 9mm Luger cartridge. This allows for more rounds to be carried at the same weight. It can produce significant muzzle flash when fired from pistols, but it has approximately 30% less recoil that the 9mm Luger cartridge, which improves controllability. The 5.7x28mm cartridge has a flatter trajectory due to its high velocity. Today we show you four different 5.7x28mm pistols: the new S&W M&P 5.7 pistol, the PSA Rock 5.7 pistol, the Ruger 5.7 pistol, and the FN Five SeveN Mk3 MRD. The PSA Rock 5.7 is the best deal for a 5.7 pistol. Buy one today for $599.99, including Holosun Red Dot Sight. Smith & Wesson M&P 5.7 chambered for the flat-shooting 5.7x28mm. This barrel is two-part lock-breech and features a proprietary gas system that improves cycling and extracts. The M&P 5.7 comes with a 1/2×28 threaded bar to mount a muzzle device, suppressor, optics-cut slides, flat-face trigger, forward, frame rail and a frame rail for mounting accessories. The Palmetto State Armory’s (PSA) Rock5.7 is the best value in an 5.7x28mm pistol. PSA currently offers it with a mounted Holosun Red Dot sight and two 23-rd mags for $599.99. The full-sized, polymer-framed pistol the PSA 5.7 Rock features a threaded carbon-steel fluted barrel and a 416 stainless-steel slide with QPQ finish for protection against corrosion. The PSA 5.7 Rock chamber measures 5.7x28mm and is fed from a 23-round magazine. It is operated by a single-action, striker fired trigger mechanism. The Ruger-5.7 Rock slide can accept other Shield footprint optics, even though it is sold with a Holosun 407k optic. This gun is reliable and much cheaper than its main competitor, FN. Ruger’s 5.7x28mm pistol has a blow-back operation with an internal hammer, ambidextrous thumb safety, and is blow-back controlled. The pistol comes with a 20+1 capacity magazine, an adjustable rear sight, and a fiber-optic front. The current MSRP is $899.00. The Ruger-5.7 is available in the On-Target Magazine’s Full Review. James Reeves reviews FN Five SeveN Mk3 MRD. This 5.7x28mm pistol is the most expensive on the market at $1,449.00 MSRP. But, could it also be the best? James takes the Five-seveN Mk3 MRD to range and to the table to determine if FN’s latest, high-tech 5.7x28mm pistol worth the investment. Ruger-5.7 and PSA Rock 5.7 Comparison between 5.7x28mm & 9x19mm. In this video James Reeves compares performance of the 5.7x28mm round to the 9mm Luger. The 5.7x28mm round is certainly more powerful and penetrates better than the 9mm round. Common 5.7 magazines can hold more than 20 rounds. James discusses both the benefits of the modern 5.7x28mm cartridge as well as some of its drawbacks, such as the high cost per round. Ammo-toGo also offers a comparison of the two types of ammo. Editor John Lewis points out that 5.7×28 ammo is lighter than 9mm ammo, while the 9mm has a slight advantage in energy and was much more efficient in gel. 9mm vs 5.7x28mm Penetration Test This video shows the tester shooting both 9mm and 9mm bullets into horizontal stacks paper plates. The smaller-diameter, 5.7mm bullet penetrated 40% more paper plates than a 9mm bullet (see video at 3:10-3;35). The 5.7mm bullet retained its dimensions, while the hollow-point 9mm bullet spread out slightly. The horizontal penetration of a round in a defensive environment is not enough to determine its effectiveness. Both rounds penetrated well in a test with Ballistic Gel. However, the 9mm caused a larger wound channel. SEE: AmmotoGo.com 5.7x28mm test. A short history of 5.7x28mm guns and ammunitionThe FN 5.7x28mm is also known as the 5.7x28mm by the C.I.P. FN 5.7x28mm NATO is a small-caliber high-velocity, low-velocity, bottle-necked, centerfire cartridge for handguns and personal defense weapons. It is approximately the same length as the.22 WMR, and somewhat similar to either the.22 Hornet (or.22 K-Hornet). It does not have a parent case, unlike many new cartridges. The FN Five-Seven pistol and FN P90 PDW developed the 5.7x28mm in response to NATO requests for a replacement cartridge for the 9x19mm Parabellum (9mm Luger). NATO conducted a series test in 2002 and 2003 to standardize a PDW cartridge to replace the 9x19mm. The tests compared the relative merits the 5.7x28mm and 4.6x30mm cartridges, which were created by Heckler & Koch. By 2006, FN’s 5.7x28mm guns — the P90 PDW, and Five-Seven pistol — had been in service with military, police, and other forces in more than 40 countries. Many law enforcement agencies in the USA use 5.7x28mm firearms, including the U.S. Secret Service. In recent years, the 5.7x28mm ammunition has been popular for handguns in the USA. Ruger introduced the Ruger-5.7 semiautomatic pistol chambered with this cartridge in December 2019. Kel-Tec’s P50 handgun was introduced in January 2021. It uses horizontal 50-round FN P90 magazines. The Rock 5.7 pistol was introduced by Palmetto State Armory in January 2021. Smith & Wesson’s new M&P 5.7 cartridge was released this year. It is made by several ammunition manufacturers, including Federal, Fiocchi and FN. 5.7x28mm ammunition can be quite expensive. The cheapest 5.7x28mm ammunition we found was 40gr Federal American Eagle for $0.77 per round. Bulk CCI 9mm Luger ammo is currently available for $0.30/round.
