Primary Weapons Systems is well-known for its development of the AR platform. Externally, PWS rifles are very similar to ARs. They offer familiar controls, handling and modularity. The magic happens inside. The lightweight, long-stroke piston system of PWS makes AR operators’ lives easier, more suppressor-friendly, and cooler. Primary Weapons Systems’ MK1 MOD 2M is an example of this. Primary Weapons Systems MK1 Mod 2-M A design evolution that improves reliability and user experience beyond the standard fair. Primary Weapons Systems is also known for its Enhanced Buffer Tube, Ratcheting Castle Nut and other parts. The PWS operating system was well-established, so it was time to develop the rest of this rifle. PWS needed a lower receiver. The MK1 MOD 2M lower features ambidextrous controls, an integrated guard and a magazine well that is well-flared. It weighs in at 7.6 ounces (pre-installed bolt controls and ambidextrous magazine) Primary Weapons Systems has succeeded in adding functionality without adding weight. The trigger guard included has a weight of 8.5oz without a magazine, trigger guard, or bolt catch. PWS did this by clever engineering and reminding us that it’s not 1960s anymore. AR manufacturers can do more, and Primary Weapons Systems did. By reducing thickness in non-critical locations, weight savings can be achieved. The standard length trigger and hammer pin areas show how much has been taken off each side. The pivot pin detent housing shows that, despite the addition of material and features for the trigger guard this lower is still lightweight. The Mk1 MOD 2M lower features bolt, magazine, and safety controls on both ends of the gun, which is not the case with other “ambi” lowers. This is a great tool for serving Southpaws, according to my experience. This allows you to control the bolt with your firing hand, without having to dismount the rifle. The MK1 MOD2-M Lower can be used with any AR-15 platform. However, it is more effective when paired with a PWS Upper to get the full experience. Most people don’t drive carbureted cars that have manual steering to the range, unless they are nostalgic. Why should we limit our rifle collection to those of that era?
