March 11, 2023 Saturday at the Movies: NRL22X Rimfire tactical and NRL22X centerfire tactical matches. The National Rifle League (NRL), started out sponsoring major centerfire tactical matches similar to PRS competitions. The NRL launched a.22 LR Rimfire series called NRL22. The NRL22 Rimfire discipline has been a huge success. Rimfire guns are easy to use and the ammo is affordable. NRL22 matches are very popular and have attracted up to 200 rimfire competitors. NRL22X is the companion rimfire long range series. NRL22X and NRL22X are available at NRL22.org. NRL22X is a great way for competition shooting to be started at a low cost. There are six (6) classes available: Open, Base and Ladies, Young Guns (8-16), Air Rifle, OG (60+),/Adaptive, as well as six (6) classes. Base Class is for budget-minded shooters. The MSRP of Optic and Rifle may not exceed $1200.00. For example, you could spend $700 on rifle and $500 on scope. This keeps the sport affordable. NRL22X matches are also sponsored by the NRL. These matches are more challenging because they require travel over longer distances. A NRL22 membership costs $30/year for the Young Guns Class and $60/year for the Adult Classes. This video is very useful for actual NRL22 competitors. It shows how to shoot from different positions and includes cool through-the lens views. This is the NRL22 March 2023 fire course. NRL22 competition has the advantage that you don’t have to spend a lot to participate. The base class is $1200.00 for rifles and optics. Even at this level, you can still do well. Travis informed us that the NRL runs 7-8 times more rimfire matches than centerfire matches. NRL22 Competition Guide — Match procedures and equipment. The most obvious rule is that all rifles must chamber in.22 long rifle. Magnum and similar rimfire cartridges cannot be used. A removable magazine is better than a fixed, tube-shaped magazine. However, they are permitted. NRL22 allows you to use any equipment, unless there is a particular course of fire that prohibits the use of an item. Tripods are not allowed. Sharing of equipment is permitted, as well as the use of slings to aid in unsupported positional shooting. The dimensions of the steel targets range from.25 inches to 6 inches. Some stages require 10 rounds, while others may require you to shoot 12 rounds. You’ll usually have 120 seconds to complete a course of fire. He enjoys the challenge. He also admits that the MUCH more affordable ammunition is a major part of the appeal. He has had good results using relatively cheap Norma Tac-22 ammunition, but he now prefers SK ammo because it offers great performance for the money.
