I take my home defense seriously and believe that everyone should. It is up to you whether you carry a gun every day or not. However, I believe everyone should have a gun in their home to protect it from evil. The FN America FNX-45 Tactical might be the ideal companion for your bedside. The Bedside Companion Big Bore FN FNX-4 Tactical Home invasions are a serious threat in today’s world. More than 2 million homes in the United States will be burgled or broken into this year. According to the FBI, one property crime is committed every four seconds. One violent crime occurs every twenty seconds. One robbery occurs every 90 seconds. One rape or attempted-rape occurs every five seconds. Even more shocking, 38 percent of violent crimes and 60 per cent of rapes take place in your home during a home invasion. We need to be able defend our homes and ourselves. If you listen to politicians, a whistle should suffice. I’ll tell you something you probably already know: a whistle doesn’t do anything during an attack, especially inside your home. A gun is the best option for me. I should probably say more guns. You should be prepared for all possible situations at home. Yes, shotguns as well as ARs are great. The FNX-45 tactical is my newest addition to our home defense arsenal. Gun Details The FNX-45 Tactical handgun is a full-size weapon. It is a massive handgun, but it is easy to use for most shooters. It isn’t as large as my Desert Eagle, let’s just say. If you wanted, the FNX-45 could be carried in a holster. The military was at the forefront of the design of the FNX-45 pistol. For civilians, what is good enough is good enough. The pistol has an aggressive grip, interchangeable rearstraps, an RDS ready slide, suppressor height sights and a threaded bar. This is all in a stunning FDE package, which includes three magazines each that can hold 15 rounds of.45 ACP. The FNX-45’s slide assembly is made of stainless-steel and measures 8.6 inches in length. It also measures 6.5 inches high and 1.5 inches wide. The pistol is 33 ounces empty. It is heavy, bulky, and duty-sized. However, it is an amazing gun. The pistol is also 100 percent ambidextrous thanks to FN. The gun has regular-size controls on both the sides of the frame so you don’t need to use tools or flip your controls to accommodate southpaws. Although the trigger is not spectacular, it is very useful. It requires a deliberate, yet smooth pull and a quick reset. It is not great, but it is enough to put rounds down range and on target. This was my first time using it at range. After shooting 50 rounds through it, it became my favorite home defense pistol. Range time I ran the FNX at a range and put it through a variety of defensive shooting drills after I was comfortable with it. It didn’t take too long to realize how the whole system works. I was shooting all sorts of ammo. My range bag looks like a Halloween candy bag. I get random rounds from everywhere, and ammo is hard to find. I just shot what I could find, not worrying about ballistic testing or the more functional pistol in stressful situations. I have never had any malfunctions or issues with the gun over the many rounds I have used it. I was able use the gun right- and left-handed. I also had no trouble using it one-handed. It was so easy to use this big old.45. These factors, along with the performance, helped me decide to use the FNX45 Tactical as my home defense pistol. The only thing I had to complain about was that the thread protector kept falling apart. I did find a solution, and we will discuss it shortly. Home Defender I love this gun. It shoots like a dream, which makes it perfect for home defense. It is big and intimidating, but it’s one of the most comfortable shooting.45 ACP handguns that I have ever used. This is particularly important for me in the middle of the night. Because I have a loose grip on the gun and a high-powered caliber, I don’t want to accidentally pull my pistol. Because I want the FNX45 to be as easy as possible to use, I prefer full-size 9mm pistols over the FNX45. It has a low bore axis, and a very balanced feel. This makes it much easier to shoot than other 9mm pistols. The grip angle is perfect, almost forcing the tritium sights back to where they were when you squeeze the trigger. It is crucial to get the gun back on target in a defensive situation. Supressing the FNX-45 tactical The threaded barrel protrudes about an inch from the slide’s end making it ready for a suppressor. Naturally, I did. This was my solution for thread protector backing off. The FNX-45 gave me an even better shooting experience. Although I didn’t think it was possible, this beast is very quiet. A gun that is well suppressed can be a big advantage in a home defense situation. It is obvious that shooting a gun in your home can be quite loud. A can will make it easier and save your hearing. It will also help you keep the muzzle flash down. I will accept any and all benefits when fighting for my life. Tritium night sights come pre-suppressed so you don’t need to modify anything to suppress the gun. I used a SilencerCo Hybrid 46 as well as a GSL Python to shoot the FNX-45 Tactical. Both of them sat well below my iron sight picture, which allowed me to comfortably photograph the pistol with a good sight image. Optics Ready If your favorite red-dot sights are red-dot sights, the top of the slide has been cut to accommodate a red-dotplate. Two mounting plates are included in the package by FN. These allow you to attach any item with a Trijicon RMR footprint, Docter optic footprint, or both. Personally, I love a red dot on my pistol for home defense. RDS pistols offer significant speed and accuracy increases. With both eyes open, you can quickly find your target and engage with it. They help keep the eye on the target and not the sight, and allow for a better view of the target. Red dots are a great option for home defense pistols. It is much easier to use than iron sights. It will be much easier to find the dot if you wake up from a deep sleep with the little crusty bits in your eyes. A cover plate protects the slide’s profile and color if you don’t use an optic. It blends seamlessly into the slide and disappears. The Gentle Giant. The FNX45 Tactical is a large, intimidating pistol that can seem overwhelming to some. It is actually a gentle giant who just wants to do its job and protect its owner. It does that very well, I can assure you. It’s easy to use, both right-hand and left-handed, has optics ready, as well as more features than other pistols on sale. All this for a low price of $1,349.
