First Look: Vortex Razor HD 4000 GB Ballistic Laser Rangefinder

Vortex Optics has just announced the Razor HD 4000GB Ballistic Rangefinder. It now features an on-board GeoBallistics Solver.Vortex Optics’ newest laser rangefinder is the Razor HD 4000GB. This laser rangefinder does more than just measure distance. This is due to its new GeoBallistics Solver, which was made possible by Vortex’s acquisition of GeoBallistics. The new capabilities of the device allow it to sync up with the GeoBallistics app on your smartphone to calculate drop and windsage corrections depending on your ballistic profile and surrounding environment. It can range reflective targets up to 4,000 yards, and less-reflective ones such as deer up to 2,200 yards. It has the same four modes (Normal (First, Last, and ELR), as well as a Horizontal Component Distance mode (HCD) that compensates angles. The only noticeable difference is that some buttons are now dedicated to the GeoBallistics functions of the device, such as BAL range mode. The GeoBallistics solver on the device uses ballistic data inputted by you and environmental data to calculate windage and drop compensation. The device pairs via Bluetooth with the GeoBallistics app on a smartphone (buying the Razor HD enables the “Pro” version as well). Custom profiles can then be created and uploaded to device. The rangefinder is preloaded with 3 common ballistic profiles, and the app has a bullet library. However, completely custom profiles can also be added. The rangefinder can be programmed to measure wind manually, or it can use data from a Kestrel device paired with the rangefinder. It also has a new Wind Bearing Capture mode. This mode uses the Razor’s built-in wind speed gauge and compass to determine the strength and direction of the wind. The device will then provide accurate windage corrections, regardless of the direction it is pointed. There’s a lot more to say about Vortex’s Razor HD 4000GB, but that’s for our full review. Until then, just know the rangefinder is available now and has an MSRP of $1,199.99.For more information, please visit vortexoptics.com.More On Long-Range Shooting:NEXT STEP: Download Your Free Storm Tactical Printable Target Pack62 Printable MOA Targets with DOT Drills – Rifle Range in YARDSThis impressive target pack from our friends at Storm Tactical contains62 printable targetsfor rifle and handgun range use.
