Big Boomer .50 BMG Boasts Impressive Half-MOA Accuracy

May 3rd 2023A few years ago, Texas gunsmith Richard King made an impressive.50-BMG target rifle for a client. This rig is equipped with a McMillan stock that has provided some impressive accuracy. Check out the target shot taken during break-in. This 3-shot group was measured at 0.476 MOA using On Target software. Or 0.454 MOA. Not bad for an animal with a VERY serious amount of recoil. Do you think you can beat that 0.476? With your AR15 firing.223-caliber ammunition?Compare the size of the massive 50-Cal action with the Rem 700 action in middle. Size matters when you’re shooting the Fifty! Some people were surprised that a man could get such accuracy from a.50 BMG. One wag wrote: “Yikes!” He will need flinch treatment after shooting that beast. Another Facebooker joked that when shooting a.50-caliber BMG, you say…In the best Crocodile Dudee voice…that is not a weapon, this is a weapon! Richard King replied that this customer had a lot of experience with jumbo caliber rifles. “Remember, this is the guy who shot a 338 Lapua during a two-day F Class match. This 50 might be easier to recoil, due to its weight and brake. Richard King showed us a monster 13-lb action for this rifle during the 2018 Berger SWN. The big BAT.50 BMG was HUGE. With the bolt fully extended, it was the size your forearm. Richard joked that “This weighs nearly as much as a F-TR rifle before optic”

The.50 BMG cartridge is a huge round. There are special tools to load the jumbo-size rounds. Giraud Tool makes a special comparator for 50-Cal cartridges. The.50 BMG double-ended comparator is very versatile. In one orientation, you can measure cartridge OAL and base-to-ogive length. The comparator can be used to measure cartridge headspace when it is reversed. Giraud 50BMG Comparator gauge, priced at $33.00 is made of 303 stainless steel and will fit most verniers, dials, or digital calipers. Click HERE for more information.
