Springfield Armory shows no signs of slowing its pace when it comes to the Hellcat Pro OSP. In a previous article, we reported on the addition of a manual thumb-safety to the model. Springfield has added a threaded bar to an exclusive Sports Inc. model. Users can now add a muzzle device or suppressor.
Springfield Armory Hellcat Pro with Threaded Barrels
Springfield continues to expand the Hellcat Pro model by adding a Sports Inc. exclusive. The model comes with a 4.4 inch threaded barrel that can be used to attach a muzzle device such as a compensator or suppressor. Shooters will feel the recoil more and have better muzzle control, allowing them to make faster follow-up shots.
The barrel is made of hammer forged steel and has a 1:10 twist rate. A.5×28 threading is also available and accepts many muzzle devices. It comes with a thread protecter. The pistol still uses the U-Dot sight, so you will need to buy suppressor height sights separately if you want to add a suppressor.

Steve Kramer is the Vice President of Marketing at Springfield Armory. He says, “The Hellcat Pro OSP is a highly capable CCW that combines full size pistol performance with concealable sizes.” “With the addition a 4.4″ barrel, this new Hellcat Pro offers a new dimension to capability for this proven platform.”
Editor’s Note
I spoke to a representative from the company, and was told it would not be available as an exclusive with the manual thumb-safety. He said that they would be adding more distributors by August, and that it might be available then with the safety. There is no official word yet.
Springfield has also released threaded barrel upgrade kits for the Hellcat and XD models. I asked if a threaded barrel upgrade could be purchased for the Hellcat Pro, and was told it is not available at this time. It is possible that in the future, the company will offer it as an upgrade. We will keep a close eye on that and report back if/when it happens. As a Hellcat Pro myself, I’m very interested to see that happen.

Since its release in 2022, the Hellcat Pro by Springfield Armory has been a huge success (details below). The pistol was a favorite for concealed carry because of its slim profile, optic-cut slide, high capacity and excellent performance. Now, the company offers the Hellcat Pro with a manual safety option for those who prefer extra safety measures.
Springfield Armory Hellcat Pro With Manual Safety
The Hellcat Pro is largely unchanged and will still have its 1-inch profile for maximum concealability. The 9mm also retains 15+1 capacity (10+1 if prohibited in certain states) while having a smaller footprint. Not to mention the additional mass in both the slide and barrel which helps reduce muzzle flop, allowing for faster follow-up shooting. Below you will find more information about the Hellcat Pro.
The pistol offers a manual safety as an option. The trigger safety is complemented by an ambidextrous finger safety. The safety is located at the rear of frame to make it intuitive for both left- and right-handed shooters.

The safety lever is also small and does not impede the operation of the Hellcat Pro or its carrying. It also flows well with the other controls located on the left side for a consistent operational layout. The horizontal grooves on the lever face provide positive traction to ensure quick actuation.
Steve Kramer is Springfield Armory Vice President of Marketing. He says, “The Hellcat Pro delivers a full-size performance with an unmatched ergonomics in a concealable and EDC-ready package.” “And for those who want a manual safety in their carry pistol, the newest variant offers everything they could possibly want in a CCW.”
Mike Detty reported on March 4, 2022.
In 2018, SIG began a trend with the P365, an ultra-compact gun with a large capacity. It had a great trigger and night sights. The price was also very reasonable. Other manufacturers took notice. Springfield Armory released their Hellcat the following year, which was billed as the smallest 9mm micro-compact with the highest capacity. It held 11+1 rounds in its flush-fit magazine and 13+1 with its extended magazine. Now, the new Springfield Armory Hellcat Pro takes it to a whole new level.
Springfield Armory Hellcat pro Details
The Hellcat is very accurate and reliable. It is easy to carry. It became my daily carry gun for these reasons. The Hellcat is no different. But lightweight microcompacts loaded up with hot defense ammunition can be a challenge.
Springfield Armory’s decision-makers realized that not all customers want or need a micro-compact. The new Hellcat Pro has all the advantages of the original Hellcat, but with a longer barrel, a longer grip frame, and an increased capacity.
The Hellcat Pro is a more manageable defense pistol, thanks to its 15+1 flush-fitted magazine. The longer slide, with its mass, helps reduce muzzle flip. This combined with the longer grip frame makes it easier to shoot hotter defense loads.
Springfield Armory equips the Hellcat Pro Hellcat with a barrel that is.70″ longer compared to the original Hellcat. In my testing, I found that the longer barrel length was responsible for a 3-7% boost in velocity. Does it make a difference to the expansion of projectiles? It’s unlikely, but it won’t hurt. The longer slide increases the sight radius, making it easier to shoot more accurately.
Springfield shipped me my test and evaluation gun with the Hex Optics Wasp Red Dot already mounted. The optic is powered by a CR2032 battery, and has a two-year run time. There is no on/off button. Its brightness is automatically adapted to ambient lighting, and the optic has a 3.5 MOA ring.
Shooting the Hellcat Pro
On a cold morning in late February, I arrived just before sunrise at my shooting location in Sonoita Arizona. The snow from the storm two days before was still on the ground. When I began setting up my DOA portable chronograph and shooting bench, the car thermometer read 17 degrees. I left the car running to warm my hands in between groups. I fired all groups while seated on a Millett BenchMaster with the accessory rail of the Hellcat Pro resting on it.
The American Gunner 124 grain XTP +P load from Hornady produced the best 5-shot group at 15-yards measuring only.88″. It also delivered the highest energy with 366 foot pounds of energy! The Hellcat Pro’s largest group was only 1.16″. If the weather had been better, I bet that all of these rounds would have produced groups smaller than 1″.
Springfield Armory equipped the Hellcat Pro Gen 3 trigger and my test samples pulled broke at 5.5 pounds of force. The Hellcat Pro trigger is crisp and has a firm reset. It’s perfect for a defensive gun!
Not everyone needs a small gun. Some people are most concerned with a gun that is comfortable to hold and has a good sight radius. This makes it easier for them to hit. It’s the hits, after all!
