This week’s episode will also feature a WWII German rifle that is well-known to fans of military firearms — the Gewehr. The Rocky Mountain Airgun Challenge leads the way in air-powered shooting. The Gewehr 43, Germany’s Answer to the M1 GarandThe Gewehr 43 was featured on Shooting USA this week. This semi-auto battler was developed as a response to the legendary M1 Garand, the US standard issue weapon in WWII. The German military, which was armed with bolt action Mausers dating back to the First World War, recognized the effectiveness of the Garand. Nazi Germany was under pressure to create a semi-automatic rifle that could match M1’s repeating firepower.
