Note the signature Garand clip in the air. The CMP hosts both the Springfield M1A Match and the popular M1 Garand Match. The writer’s father used a Garand during WWII, which is enough to make me want one. But I also liked the look, feel and heft of this American classic battle rifle. Garand enthusiasts love the “Ping” sound of the ejected en bloc clip. Some people own an M1 Garand to preserve history, while other enjoy competing with this old warhorse. Every year, the CMP’s John C. Garand Match at Camp Perry is one of Camp Perry’s most popular events. There are also other vintage military rifles matches. Rimfire Sporter event draws hundreds of competitors

Rimfire Sporter match is the CMP event that offers the highest level shooter satisfaction and the most diverse group competitors at Camp Perry. It also has the lowest entry fee. This year’s match is scheduled for Saturday, July 8th, 2023 during the first weekend in the National Match Schedule. The Rimfire Sporter rifle match is one of the most popular Camp Perry events. It features.22LR competitions in open sights (O Class), telescopic sights (T Class) and tactical/unlimited classes (TU Class), fired at 25 and fifty yards. Prior to the match, a CMP Rimfire Clinic is being held. The Rimfire Sporter match attracts hundreds of gunners to Camp Perry every year. The CMP National Rimfire Sporter Rifle Match is a recreation-oriented match where shooters use smallbore sporter guns with scopes or iron sight. Service Rifle Matches – AR-Platform Rifles with OpticsService Rifle Shooting is both fun and challenging. You will need to learn how to shoot from multiple positions, and you’ll also need to be able make rapid wind calls. The modern AR-based rifle is affordable, and it has a relatively low amount of recoil. Modern service rifles are highly customizable and can be fitted with adjustable stocks and optional magnified opticals. Older military weapons, such as the M1A or M1 Garand, present different challenges, with their heavier-recoiling ammunition, greater weights and classic iron sights. Hi-Lux asked participants at Camp Perry’s CMP 2021 summer games, what they liked most about competing with service rifles and military rifles like the M1 Garand. The responses of the shooters were based on four themes: Self Improvement, Comradery (enjoying rifles with heritage), History, and Challenge. Camp Perry Bullseye Pistol CompetitionCamp Perry is home to the most prestigious annual trophies matches in our country’s history. In a venue that is known for service rifle matches the sport of precision gun is no less important, challenging, or respected. The National Trophy Pistol Matches focus on traditional handgunning — the stance and intense concentration, as well as the one-handed grip. All of this is unmistakable for the game Bullseye Pistol. There are over 20 match trophies awarded every year to the top Bullseye Pistol Shooters, both civilian and military. The best will receive National Match Trophies, and the President’s Hundred Tab. James Drain, Arms and the Man (August 1911) Federal legislation launched the National Matches. The 1903 legislation established the National Matches and commissioned the National Trophy. It also provided funding for the Matches. Since 1907, the National Matches are held at Camp Perry. The range is located near Port Clinton, in northern Ohio, along the shores Lake Erie. The site was acquired in 1906 in response to a need for a bigger facility for military training as well as the NRA’s firing programs. The original land for Camp Perry purchased in 1906. The reservation was named in honor of Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry. He was the American naval officer who won the Battle of Put-in-Bay in the War of 1812. Cpl. L. B. Jarrett was the first to fire a shot at the new Camp Perry training site. Camp Perry hosted its first National Pistol and Rifle Championships in 1907. Since then, this location has hosted the National Matches every year. Over 4,000 competitors usually attend the National Matches every year, making it one of the most popular shooting events in the western hemisphere.
