Historic Colt Python Revolvers – Serial Numbers 2, 3 and 5

June 24th, 2023Each day, the NRA National Firearms Museum shares something special from its collections on Facebook. The Museum once displayed a trio snakes – three very special Colt Pythons. These three prized wheelguns, from bottom to top are: Colt Python serial numbers 2, 3, and 5. Yes, that’s the original box of Python #2. The museum states that such low serial numbers were usually produced for company executives or key members of gun design teams. Colt Pythons are known for their beautiful finish and excellent trigger. Since the Colt Python’s introduction in 1955, the price of the Python has skyrocketed. A Colt Python from the early 1950s, in pristine condition, can be sold for $4400.00, or more. This is more than 35 times its original price. Royal Blue models were available for only $125.00. According to this Colt advertisement, published in June 1955, factory-engraved models began at $245.00. If you’re lucky you might be able to see the collections yourself. The NRA operates three Museums: the NRA National Firearms Museum, located in Fairfax Virginia, the NRA National Sporting Arms Museum, located in Springfield, MO, and the Frank Brownell Museum of the Southwest, located in Raton, NM.
