Sunday GunDay, June 25th 2023: DIY 6mm Creedmoor With Howa Barreled ActionThe popular 6mm Creedmoor cartridge is also great for varmint hunting. There is good Lapua 6mm Creedmoor Brass available and many 6mm Creedmoor Factory rifle options are now available, including the Savage Model 110 Elite Precision on MDT chassis, and the Ruger Precision 8mm Creedmoor. barrel.Do-It-Yourself 6mm Creedmoor Rifle Project — UltimateReloader.comA smart and cost-effective alternative for 6mm Creedmoor enthusiasts is to build their own rifle. Start with a Howa barreled Action. The Howa 1500 bolt action is a mag fed, flat bottomed bolt that comes with the excellent HACT 2 stage trigger. Brownells offers a wide range of barrel lengths and contours for the Howa 1500 full size barreled action. Prices start at $429.99. Brownells offers Howa 1500 Mini barreled action starting at $399.99.

Gavin Gear, of UltimateReloader.com, has built a nice 6mm Creedmoor using a Howa 1600 heavy-barreled Action and KRG Bravo Chassis. This project has been a great success. The rifle has displayed impressive accuracy and outstanding dependability. Gavin has used the rifle in some tactical/practical competitions and it performed well. Gavin installs the enclosed fore-end of KRG on the KRG Bravo chassis in this video. This accessory foreend has a top Picatinny Rail and various attachment options in the side and lower sections. The enclosed foreend (upper left) is shown next to the factory forend that comes with the KRG Bravo. (lower right): Gavin then installs a Mystic Precision mPod from EGW. This stable, wide base bipod has a T Slot rail for rifle attachment and legs that can be adjusted independently for height. The video shows how the rifle is assembled step-by-step. The Howa barreled actions are pre-chambered to accept the 6mm Creedmoor round, so no gunsmithing skills are required. In the video, Gavin unboxes a Howa 1500 barreled Action from Brownells. He then mounts his barreled action on the KRG Bravo stock and checks the torque levels. Gavin then borescopes the barrel (5:55), noting that “what I saw I liked – there are virtually no tooling marks.” The finish on the grooves and lands looks really good”. The PRB 6mm Creedmoor Load Study has been compiled by PRS competitors for both the 6mm Creedmoor, and 6.5 Creedmoor. This PRB study can be a good starting point for new 6mm Creedmoor users. PRB studied the match loads of “173 top-ranked precision rifle shotters in the United States”. One cautionary note, these PRS guys might be loading pretty hot. Work up gradually, 0.3 grain at a time. Sierra Bullets has published the load data for 6mm Creedmoor. Sierra Bullets has released a very comprehensive set of 6mm Creedmoor loads, which covers fifteen (15) different bullets ranging from 55 to 110 grain.
