Should you carry a trauma kit?

Sometimes, someone will end up bleeding in life. You don’t necessarily have to carry a gun every day for it to happen. There are also all the times when you use power equipment or sharp, large cutting tools. It would be a shame to have to tell the Big Guy in the pearly gate, “I was only fifty yards from my home, but I could not make it in time.” Guess I should have had some trauma gear.” Adventure Medical Kits offers compact kits that can be kept in a pocket or bag. One of their kits comes with QuikClot. I keep it close at hand. It has four different gauze sizes, gloves, tape, and a trauma pad. Also included is a packet QuikClot, a hemostatic dressing which accelerates clotting. This Adventure Medical Kits Trauma Pack is small enough to easily fit in a winter jacket and not be noticeable. A smaller kit is best for the warmer months. Yes, QuikClot can make the wound look ugly, but you won’t have a doctor on hand when you need it. The ER doctor will be able to handle any mess that the QuikClot might make. You have your pistol, reload and other accessories, such as a flashlight, tactical folder and cell phone. It might seem excessive to add a trauma kit. If you want to be prepared, it’s not enough to have the location of a Level 1 Trauma Center in your phone. You will only use your pistol to defend yourself, your family, or those who are under your protection. It seems that the world doesn’t appreciate ad-hoc heros. It is amazing how much they can fit into a vacuum-sealed bag, but it is enough to cover many different types of emergencies. Your trauma kit is also useful for anyone you want to share it with, whether that is someone at work or at a public gathering who is in danger and the EMT truck will be there shortly. If an accident occurs, a trauma kit would come in handy at a family gathering even if the majority (or all) members of your family don’t know that you carry. Insurance comes in many forms. You have chosen one of them, a daily carry gun. It is both appropriate and desirable. Find a pocket. As the old saying says, “In for one penny, you get a pound.” Find a kit to fit it. Pack it. Be prepared. Be prepared. Editor’s Note: The article appeared in the special 2022 CCW issue of Gun Digest the Magazine.
