National Hunting and Fishing Day 2023

National Hunting and Fishing Day was celebrated on September 23, 2023. We are proud to recognize the importance of hunting for millions of Americans – as a food source for families, and as a connection with nature and outdoors. In this article, we offer links to the NFHD website, which has many useful resources for hunters. We also provide links to Where to Hunt, How to get Hunting Licenses and Hunter Education. President Nixon established the NHFD in 1972. NationalToday.com reports that the NHFD “roots date back more than a century to President Theodore Roosevelt who introduced the first laws regulating hunting wildlife in the United States. This month, we hope that some of our readers will introduce new shooters to hunting. As a family tradition, many hunters are introduced to hunting by their families or friends. Over 9,2 million hunters live in the United States. To have a successful hunting experience, you must first go to areas where there is abundant game. It is important to find the right hunting areas. The NSSF provides a database of hunting locations across the country. Click on a state and then select the species you want to hunt. This is an excellent resource. In most states, a hunting permit and/or license are required to hunt game animals. FWS.gov has a state-by-state list of hunting licenses from the Federal Fish & Wildlife Service. For all hunters, regardless of whether they have a mentor to guide them, the first step to the woods is to take a state-certified course on hunter education.
