We congratulate John Masek, (F-Open), and Keith Trapp, (F-TR), 2023 NRA F-Class National Champions for Mid-Range. The Mid-Range Nationals took place at the Ben Avery Range near Phoenix, Arizona. The F-Class Long Range Nationals will continue from November 2 to November 5, 2023. Keith’s 2023 Mid-Range Championship was his second major win in a line — Keith won the Long-Range F-TR Championship back in 2022. John shot well in windy, difficult conditions. He finished with the second highest X Count (after Norm) and the highest Grand aggregate score. John’s first National title is a huge win. No one has worked more to improve his game with advanced reloading techniques and lots of practice, both with centerfire rifles and rimfire. David Joe, a fellow F-Class competitor and forum member, praised John for his performance: “Hey John! Great wind calling this week. Congratulations!” With wind like that, who needs Long-Range? It was a hard-fought contest! Great scores today!” In F-TR Division Keith Trap won the top honors, with a score of 1776-87X, followed by Tracy Hogg (1767-70X) and James Crofts (1762-67X). Keith, who is a proven FTR star, won the FTR 1000-yard Nationals in 2022 at Ben Avery. Here’s a great interview with John Masek, a fellow F-Open ace who is also a YouTube host. And here’s a video F Class John produced last year at the Long-Range Championship (1000-yards). This was also at the Ben Avery Range, Arizona. Destiny Fulfilled. Before John left Oregon for the 2023 F-Class Nationals this Editor spoke with John on the phone. I told John “Good luck, I think you are due to stand on top of the podium and have a trophy.” This prediction proved to be accurate. We are happy to see that our friend and co-worker John Masek has now been crowned the NRA F-Class Open Mid-Range National Champion.
