Congratulations to Team Lapua-Brux-Borden (aka “Team Lapua”) for winning the F-Open grand aggregate team award at the 2023 F-Class Long-Range Championships. Their score was 1593-95X. Tod Hendricks is the Team Lapua Captain, Ted Wedell is the Team Lapua Coach, Jeremy Smith and David Christian are Team Lapua Members, and Tod Wedell is Team Lapua’s Ted Wedell.
In Match 1 of F-Open Team Championships, Team Lapua set a new National Record of 800-53X. This record was previously held by Team Long Shots from 2014, and it was broken by 11 Xs. In the 2023 Match 1, four Team Lapua Members fired 20 rounds at 1000 yards for record, without dropping a point.
“We noticed that the forecast indicated that the wind conditions would be mild and there was a possibility to set a National Record”, commented Team Captain Erik Cortina. “The previous record was 800-42X so we knew that we all had perfect scores to claim this record. It was a great feeling when the 80th shot resulted in an X. We scored 800-53X, breaking the old record by eleven Xs.”
Likewise, team members Jay Christopherson and David Christian, as well as Erik Cortina, finished in the top 10 for the individual F-Open LR Championship. Team Lapua also finished third in the Mid-Range F-Open championships. This is a great way to add a final flourish to Lapua’s dominant results.
The 2023 United States F-Class Long Range National Championships was hosted by the Desert Sharpshooters. It took place November 1-5, 2020 at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility, Phoenix, Arizona. The Long Range National Team Championship is made up of eight (8) 20 shot strings fired at a distance of 1000 yards. There are 160 total shots with a maximum score of 10-1X for each shot.
