Do you have an older RCBS electronic Powder Dispenser? Take a look at this ChargeMaster Tuning Video from 8541 Tactical if you have one. This nine-minute video shows how to “tune” your older ChargeMaster’s dispensing process. The video shows you how to program your machine step-by-step. Some people want a faster flow of powder, while others tune their machines to have a more consistent drop (with less over-runs). Inserting a 1-inch-long McDonald’s plastic tube into the silver dispensing tube of the ChargeMaster is a cheap and popular modification. This mod works surprisingly well in preventing “clumping”, which can lead to an over-charge. This video starts at 6:22 and shows the McDonald’s straw Mod. Modifications for Large-Diameter Dispensing TubsThe McDonald’s straw modification shown in the video above has been a success for many people. Some people would like to improve the flow performance (with almost no clumping). Frank B., a forum member, has developed a new solution using a brass fitting with a large diameter. The hose fitting is placed in the RCBS dispensing syringe (with tape around the barbed section). (You don’t want metal on metal.) Frank says: “I’ve found a solution to the over-throw issue.” It is a simple 1/4″ barbed hose nipple. I wrapped two layers of tape around barbed end to ensure a tight fit. I have thrown over 100 Varget charges without ever having to overthrow. To ensure a constant flow, the ID of the barbed ends needs to be around 3/16”. This works because the ID is larger at the drop.” Frank continues: “You can clearly see in the picture that the powder does not stack up. You can watch the powder drop one grain at time. This should make your case charging a lot easier. For best results with this brass fitting mod, we recommend deburring and smoothing the front edge of brass fittings over which the kernels fall. Boyd Allen suggests a brass fitting mod. We welcome reader contributions.
