Rodzilla’s T-Rex frontrest is impressive. Rodzilla’s front rest is a significant innovation in the front rest world. The T-Rex is a front rest that offers a wide range of capabilities to take your shooting experience up a notch. Rodzilla offers a smaller unit, the Raptor Front Rest. It is lighter and smaller for easier travel. The Raptor has many of the same advanced features as the T-Rex. Review by F Class JohnThe T-Rex looks similar to other coaxial frontrests. The T-Rex is equipped with a joystick and three points of contact on the ground, as well as a platform to hold the rifle. If you look closely, this isn’t a typical rest. Rod Brakhage, the Rod in Rodzilla, has created the most user-friendly and match-ready modular front rest available. T-Rex MSRP varies from $1995.00 up to $2305.00, depending on the options. The T-Rex is just over 21 pounds, which is about the same weight as many mid-sized rests. The T-Rex is a large rest, with a footprint that rivals the largest on the market. Rod tells us that the T-Rex’s footprint is similar to that of the SEB Max… 12.5″ wide x 11.25″ from front to back. At just over 21 pounds, the T-Rex is still quite portable. My rest weighs less that a SEB Neo.” This combination of wide base and moderate weight allows for an incredibly sturdy platform while still being quite portable. Rugged Carry Case makes transport easy
Rodzilla ships the T-Rex with a custom-designed, hard carry case. It fits perfectly and has plenty of room for extra feet and accessories. This case is sturdy and makes it easy to take the T-Rex along to matches. The case is sturdy enough to stack things on it in my truck. If you plan to store your rest in the box between matches, then it is a good idea to place a desiccant in the box to absorb moisture. The T-Rex comes with an adjustable joystick whose length can be adjusted from 15.5” up to 21′. This adjustability allows you to find a comfortable position, regardless of your stock design or length. You won’t need to buy a joystick extender. The T-Rex makes shooting F-Class prone or from a bench a pleasure. This is due to its revolutionary ability of making large vertical adjustments without moving from your position. This is done with a detachable handle/arm that you can operate while behind the gun. This is the long T handle on the right-hand side. Consider the moment you leave the 800-yard line in a match. You get to the 900 yard line, set up your equipment, and the range officer calls the hot line. Suddenly, you realize that you haven’t adjusted your elevation for the new yardage. Normaly, you would have to turn the scope dials and then get up to adjust your frontrest or at least stretch uncomfortably to reach your rest adjustments. The T-Rex allows you to turn the right-side handle of the gross elevation while still in your position, then move to the new hold point and start firing. The same principle applies to other situations where you need to adjust vertically without changing your shooting position. All of this can be achieved with a counterbalance system that is easy to adjust and incredibly sensitive. Once set, the counterbalance allows for fluid and smooth motion in any direction. A very wide horizontal range is useful in matches
The T-Rex has nearly twice as much horizontal movement as other rests when looking downrange. In high ratio mode there is approximately 70 MOA horizontal travel. This allows you to scan a large area of targets/flags quickly without having to change the magnification or use your spottingscope. The large field of view comes in handy when you are shooting in changing conditions and want to see targets on both sides. Rodzilla T Rex Configuration Options – Tops, Colours, Feet Rodzilla has a variety of options available for the T Rex. The top is the first option. Choose either the Rodzilla 5-Axis Roller Top or the new 5-Axis IBS legal sandbag. You can order both if you have the budget. They are interchangeable within minutes. The video below shows how to swap tops on the Rodzilla T-Rex.
5-Axis Top Benefits
Rod Brakhage says: “This innovative 5-Axis top rotates independent of the base plate, so no matter how you set the rest on the line, you only need to move the rear bag to pan across a row of targets without binding the rifle.” The sides of the rifle also run against vertical Delrin Rollers.
You can choose from four (4) standard colours on the website. However, for an extra fee, you can get it made in any color. Choose between Sand Feet or Standard Feet
You can choose between the standard bench feet and the large, beautiful sand/dirt foot when you order a T Rex. You can order both, like I did. I use the bench foot at my regular club, where I shoot on wood and concrete platforms. The sand feet, however, are perfect for matches held in sand or dirt. These sand foot provide a stable platform on the floor. Linear bearings allow for ultra-smooth and precise adjustments
Rod Brakhage, the designer behind Rodzilla, is a smart and innovative designer who is committed to improving shooter experience. Rod Brakhage’s T-Rex uses linear ball bearings on both the X and Y axis. “The horizontal/vertical block, or X-Y assembly, moves on six double-sealed bearings that travel along hardened shafts to allow for effortless movement”. This system allows you to aim quickly and efficiently. The days of moving PAST your target and then coming back (to get your aim right) or resetting the joystick position after each shot are over. With the T-Rex you only need to make one smooth and precise move, and your aim will be set. It stays in place even after the shot. The T-Rex lets you position your crosshairs every time with pinpoint accuracy. If you need to move the crosshairs just a little, you can do that with ease. In F-Class we hold between the scoring lines of the target to correct for wind variations. (Without touching the scope’s adjustment knob). I was able to make these holds quickly and accurately with the T-Rex without wasting time by bouncing around. I have really enjoyed the repeatable confidence that the T-Rex gives me, whether I am doing load development, shooting a match, or practicing at the range. If you’re looking for a front rest that will give you an advantage or at least make your life easier, then head over to TheRodzilla.com to learn more about the T-Rex Front Rest. * Rod Brakhage explains that the bridge moves up and down using double-sealed bearings on shafts of 1″ hardened. My design uses a rack-and-pinion with an 18″ drive shaft to adjust the height of the rail. This system allows you stay in shooting position while looking through the scope and adjusting the vertical positioning of your crosshairs. The joystick can be adjusted to the height you like and will allow you to dial in your vertical precisely at the center of the target. This design makes it easy to achieve a 1/4 MOA movement. There is also no need to lock your bridge, as the adjustable clutch will hold the vertical position. The long drive shaft is equipped with a scalloped handle on the shooter’s side and a quick coupling on the rest’s side. Once the drive shaft is adjusted, you can either remove it from the shooting mat or set it aside. The geared rack can be placed to the right or left for right-handed shooting.
