3D Cutaway Animations Show AR-Platform Rifles in Action

Americans love AR-platform rifles. However, they can be maintenance-intensive, as hot gasses are directed right back into the action to operate the bolt. We believe that ARs are unique in their semi-auto operation system. This feature gives you an “inside view” of the AR. It includes X-Rays and Cutaway views, created by advanced 3D computer modelling. AR15 Functions Revealed by 3D Computer Animation Have you ever wondered how the parts in an AR15 work? How does the reciprocating Bolt Carrier feed the rounds from the magazine exactly? How does the trigger group function and reset itself after each shot? How does the gas system operate and bleed gas out of the barrel? This video from 45Snipers answers these and other questions. This 5-minute video uses “cutaway” computer animation to show all the features of an AR15 from the inside out. This fascinating firearms video allows the viewer to see inside the upper receiver, lower receiver, chamber, magazine, and bolt carrier. This video is slow to start and has annoying music in the background, but it’s worth watching if own or shoot an AR-platform rifle. This video shows all the key actions during the charging process, loading, firing and ejection. The cutaway animation shows the rounds being removed from the magazine, then chambered. The animation shows how the trigger group functions and how the firing pin hits the primer. You can watch the bullet travel down the barrel, before the empty casing is thrown out of the ejection hole. Here are some frames from the video. How AR-Platform Rifles work — General IntroductionThis video will help you understand how AR-type rifles work. It shows the upper and lower sections working together. Cutaway 3D Action of AR15/M16 — Watch Video This is an excellent “cutaway animation” by Thomas Schwenke, which shows how an AR-15 works — how the entire load cycle works from beginning to end. AR platform rifles are semiautomatic versions of the M16. The upper and lower receivers are easily separated by front and rear pins. The upper receiver contains the barrel, handguard and forward gas tube while the lower receiver contains the grip, trigger group and fire selector. The lower is also attached to the stock, which contains the buffer assembly. The original ArmaLite AR-15 rifle was designed by American gun maker ArmaLite in the year 1956. It featured a select-fire, gas-operated, air-cooled magazine-fed rifle. It was based off Armalite’s AR-10 chambered in 7.62×51 NATO. In 1959, ArmaLite transferred its rights to the AR-10 to Colt. The main modification was the relocation of the charging handle from the underside of the carrying handle to behind the receiver. The U.S. Military adopted the redesigned rifle as the M16 Carbine, which was put into production in March of 1964.
