Henderson V3 Machine Trims Cases and Chamfers Them Efficiently

Gavin Gear, of UltimateReloader.com, recently tested the impressive Henderson Gen 3 Trimmer (V3). Gavin Gear’s website has a detailed write-up, and you can view Gavin’s 18.7 minute video review below.
Gavin says: “I met Todd Henderson on the SHOT Show, and it was clear that quality control is important to him. The Henderson Gen 3 case trimming machine is built using an adjustable tri-trim 3 way cutter with different pilots for different case necks. Three-way cutters can trim to length, chamfer both the inside and outside at once. This trimmer features a 1700 RPM motor and spindle, as well as a custom DC made in the USA. It is made from billet aluminum, has a taper lock cutting head, and is consistent within 0.002″” with brass of the same brand. The collets, Brown & Sharpe-style collets, are interchangeable with Forster’s case trimmer collets. Henderson offers four collets and one comes with each machine.

Gavin explains how to trim brass: “I had some Dasher 6mm brass that I’ve fired several times and wanted 5-10 thousandths taken off. The Henderson trimmer is similar to a milling device. The taper means that you don’t need much torque.
The Henderson Gen 3 Trimmer produced cartridge length consistency that was outstanding after trimming. “I was careful to make sure my trimming process was consistent as possible. I measured the standard deviation for the first ten cartridges I ever trimmed with the unit. It was 0.00047. The extreme spread is actually lower than advertised. This trimmer is easy to use, and it produces consistent results.”

F-Class John Review: Henderson Gen 3 Trimmer
Henderson Trimmer has been reviewed by our Editor F-Class John. He was so impressed with the product that he bought one and uses it to trim his Win cases for F Open competition.
John liked the Henderson trimmer’s precision and the overall design, which offered good ergonomics and precise alignment of the cases. As you can see in the videos, cycling is smooth and positive. John’s.284 win brass fit over the pilot perfectly, but he says that other users might need to expand their casenecks to fit their pilot.

Watch the video below to see the Henderson Trimmer in action. Dual, parallel horizontal support shafts ensure precise alignment of the case when it moves toward the cutter blade. The Taper-Lock cutter offers a 14-degree chamfer on the inside and a 30-degree chamfer on the outside. The trimming process is consistent from case to case, and Henderson’s design effectively captures brass shavings.
