This week, there were some big news in the world of reloading. Hodgdon Powder Company, a division within Vista Outdoor (VSTO), has acquired RCBS. RCBS’s main operations will remain in Oroville for the time being, and its entire product line — presses and dies, powder measurements, case preparation tools, priming instruments, scales, etc. — will continue to be produced. This is still a big deal, as a leading reloading equipment maker has been acquired by a major powder maker/distributor. Today’s Saturday Showcase features some of the most popular RCBS products, including single-stage presses, turret and progressive presses as well as powder dispensers and tools. RCBS ChargeMaster link scale/dispenser Bluetooth Having a modern electronic powder dispenser/scale makes the hand loading process much more efficient. Powder dispensers of the latest generation are highly accurate and can store charge settings for different cartridge types. The latest RCBS ChargeMaster Link has a modern interface and Bluetooth technology that “talks to” a handy app on your mobile device. Cabelas.com has this available for $299.99. RCBS Combo Kit – Good Choice to Get Started with Reloading. You can save money by purchasing multiple reloading items in a combo package. RCBS offers a range of Reloading Combo Kits that include a reloading presses, powder measurer, scale, primer tool, and more. These kits range from $265 to $620 on Amazon. This video reviews the RCBS Rebel Master Kit. This is a complete starter kit, which can be purchased for $499.99 from Midsouth. We like the Rebel Master combo set for many reasons, including the press. The powder measure and trickler work well, and the hand primer is reliable with good feeding and lots of leverage. RCBS Partner Press All serious reloaders need a secondary, single-stage press to perform repetitive tasks like decapping primers. A small, compact press is also easily transportable to the range. Load development is more efficient when loading at the range because you can easily change seating depth and other variables. The RCBS Partner Press is a great secondary press. This UltimateReloader Video shows the Partner Press’s key features. RCBS Turret Press, 6-Station — Tips for Operation This editor has owned an RCBS Turret Press since over 20 years. While certainly not as versatile/sophisticated as the Area 419 XERO turret press, this six-station RCBS press does its job handily. This is a great choice if you need to load several pistol cartridges. You can install a sizing die and a seating tool for three different cartridges, such as the 9mm Luger and.357 Magnum. RCBS Brass Boss Prep Center This powered case prep center performs multiple tasks with efficiency. The RCBS Boss is priced at $198.99 (#ad) on Amazon. It has six rotating stations with variable speeds (four at 350RPM; two at 550RPM). This unit is great for initial case prep (chamfering/deburring) and regular brass maintenance. RCBS Summit – Set-up and Field Installation on Vehicle The RCBS Summit Press #ad is a unique, small footprint press which operates differently from most reloading machines. The cast-iron Summit features a large-diameter central column, and the die moves up and downward to meet the cartridge. The Summit is portable due to its small footprint. As you can see from the second video, our tester mounted a Summit Press (with a pedestal) on his vehicle so he could load wherever he wanted. RCBS Bench Mount Priming Tool (Two Videos) If you have to prime a large number of cases, then the RCBS Bench Mount Auto Priming Tool is a cost-effective solution (currently $155.09 at Amazon #ad). It is attached to your bench for stability and security. As you can see from these videos, a vertical tube holds dozens or primers which are fed into the pusher. This bench-mounted RCBS has been praised by older guys who have pain when using hand primer tools. Kent Sakamoto, RCBS, discusses the three types of brass cleaning machines: Vibratory Tumblers, Wet Tumblers (with media), or Ultrasonic Cleaning Machines. Kent discusses the pros and cons for each system. The majority of gun owners will benefit from having both an ultrasonic machine to clean parts and a tumbler to clean fired brass.
