Paul Parosky – 30BR Brass with Necks Expanded, Turned
This is good news for 30BR shooters. Paul Parosky, the maker of the superb PRP Custom Bullets, now offers 30BR neck-turned brass. You can save considerable time and effort when you form 30BR cases using Lapua 6mmBR brass. The neck-turning is also a time-saver, and you don’t need any tools. Paul Parosky comments on this Neck-Turning setup: “For neck-turning, I use an old drill press that’s been re-worked. To avoid any runout, the cutter and spindle must be indicated before neck-turning. The RPM is approximately 520. My lubricant is a mix of mystery and royal oil.
Why the 30 BR is the dominant cartridge in 100/200 Benchrest-for Score Competition. The 30BR, along some wildcat variants, continues to be the dominant cartridge in the short-range (100/200), benchrest-for score competition. The 30BR’s.308-diameter bullets weigh more than the 6mm bullets used in the 6PPC (which rules group BR contest). The larger 30-Cal diameter is better at touching scoring rings. The Neck-Turned Cases are Expanded
Parosky uses a series expander mandrels to produce his 30BR brass. Parosky then uses a modified drill press to neck-turn with power. Paul tells us that he uses three tapered expander mandrels to neck-turn the machine to the correct neck chamber. Then, he runs them through an FL expander mandrel, to ensure straight necks. I then clean all the cases.”
