What kind of handguns and gear do female gunners prefer? A survey of lady shooters was conducted at SHINE 2024 – the Annual Conference of “A Girl & A Gun”. The SHINE 2024 event was held in May at the Cameo shooting and education complex near Grand Junction, Colorado. The 706 ladies who attended ranged in age between 17 and 78, and came from 45 different states. The 700+ lady participants included both novices as well as seasoned shooters. 28% were relatively new shooters; 41% were intermediates and 31% advanced. Last September, the annual event was sold out and there were more than 500 women waiting on the list. All participants were required go through a “Gear Check” process where their handguns and belts, holsters and mag pouches all were reviewed and function checked. The 706 women who attended the training brought a total of 976 handguns. In today’s article we reveal the most popular handguns and accessories, including holsters, sights/optics and other accessories. Although there are more pistol mounted optics every year, they haven’t yet surpassed the iron sights in women. Iron sights were used on 54.4% of ladies’ pistols, compared to Red Dot slide-mounted optics on 45.6%. Training Sessions at AG & AG SHINE Conference
The Cameo Shooting & Education Complex hosted training sessions during this shine event. AG & AG’s 28 live-fire bays and 25 field classrooms were able to accommodate a variety of training topics on shooting and self-defense.
