Ballistic-X App for Android and iOS allows you to measure groups precisely
A smartphone app that calculates the size of bullet-hole groups from your photos is something that all photographers need. The Ballistic-X App can be used in a few steps. The app is easy to use. Take a picture of your target and set some values (such a bullet diameter or distance to target). Next, use the touchscreen to place circles around each hole. The app will calculate the group size in MOA or Mils, distance to point-of-aim and provide all the information in an overlay. Click “save” and your group will be saved for posterity.

The app works well, costs $7.99, and is very easy to set up. It is compatible with both Android and iOS (Apple). There are other methods to calculate group sizes using target images. We have used the excellent On-Target program for years. On-Target must be installed on a Windows platform laptop or desktop. Ballistic-X is an easy-to-install app with versions for both Android (Apple) and iOS (Apple).

The Ballistic-X App is very user-friendly. You can choose between MOA or Milrad group values and Inch or Metric dimensions. There are many labeling options that provide valuable information for Load Development. You can adjust your turrets with the ATZ (Adjustment To Zero).
How to Use the Ballistic-X App
1. Select Photo Source — Choose Camera to create a new photo or access the Photo Library.
2. 2.Set Reference Values — Select Bullet Diameter, and enter Distance to Target.
3. Scale Image — Mark two points on the target photo to establish scale.
If the target is 1? square, mark 2 points on the grid for 1? Distance
4. Mark Point of Aim — Place the central X at the aim point.
5. Designate Shot Locations — Place the circles in the green areas around each shot.
6. Finalize Data Display — Position overlay, select size/color options and export file
Android Options — Range Buddy FREE App
Ballistic-X is not the only app available for mobile, Range Buddy. This app also measures shot groups. Range Buddy is available only for Android devices. Although it is free, there are ads. Range Buddy isn’t bad but users complain about it crashing and compatibility issues with older phones. We recommend that you stick with BallisticX for $7.99
