Rochelle Walensky, Director of the CDC, Calls for More Studies on Gun Violence’

Rochelle Walensky, CDC Director, has apparently decided that guns are her new focus in the midst the ongoing COVID-19 crisis and pandemic. According to her recent statements she hopes that her new focus on “preventing gun violence” rather than “promoting gun control” will be more appealing to America’s gun owners who have been suspicious of the Biden Administration’s anti-gun actions.

Op-Ed: Why the Anti-Gun CDC isn’t trustworthy and why you shouldn’t too

Rochelle Walensky, Director of CDC, Wants to Take On “Gun Violence”

Walensky stated in a CNN interview that “generally, the word gun,’ for those who are concerned about research in the area, is followed with the word control,’ and that’s what I don’t want to do here.” “I’m not here to control gun violence and gun death.” “I’m here to prevent gun violence and gun deaths.”

Walensky is actually wrong to be so naive. She has made a mistake with her new emphasis. President Joe Biden, Walensky’s boss, calls “gun violence a public health epidemic.” Gun owners know that the term “gunviolence” is an anti-gun term. This term is used by those on the other side in the Second Amendment battle instead of what is really affecting many inner cities of America–criminal violence. It is a “public crisis” that shifts attention away from violent criminals to the firearm.

Walensky seems to want more of the anti-gun studies that the CDC is so good at producing. Here’s how it works in most cases. They first provide funding for anti-gun researchers who are devout and will try to determine if gun ownership is a problem with respect to a topic. They then feign shock when the same gun-haters from the so-called academic community prove once again that violence is not the fault of the criminal who uses it for evil. The response is to limit gun owners’ rights while ignoring those who are responsible for all the murders.

Including Gun Owners?

Walensky says she wants to hear from everyday gun owners, like you and me, on the topic.

She continued, “We cannot understand firearm violence and firearm injury research without fully embracing the firearm owner community.” “I believe that the majority of people who want to own a firearm don’t want anyone hurt by them. They don’t want anyone being hurt by them. They should be at the table.”

Interestingly, just a few days after Walensky made this statement, National Shooting Sports Foundation leaders called it into question. Larry Keane, General Counsel of NSSF, stated that he would be happy to share proven ideas in a news article titled “CDC Director Calls for More Gun Studies, but Doesn’t Call the Gun Industry.”

“Dr. Keane wrote that Walensky stated that she wants gun owners to be included. “So far, Dr. Walensky hasn’t contacted NSSF. Real Solutions is a collection of ideas that help to reduce criminal acquisition and misuse firearms, firearm suicides, and firearm safety. Safer Communities

Industry Programs Fight Illegal Guns

Keane then listed a number important programs in the firearms industry that are helping to curb criminal access to firearms, and saving lives. The CDC’s treatment of violent criminals who kill innocent Americans as if they were a virus is a mistaken approach.

Keane stated that “the fact of the matter” is that criminal misuse of firearms can be a concern. Law enforcement and courts must address this issue. The insistence on treating criminal activity like a pathogen doesn’t address the problem. The mere presence of a firearm doesn’t make law-abiding citizens criminals-in-waiting. Education efforts, such as those promoted by the firearm industry have been shown to reduce negligent firearm misuse.”

Walensky’s renewed interest in gun violence research is coming as anti-gun advocates continue their claim that Congress stopped funding all “gun violence research” by the CDC in 1996. They are actually referring to the Dickey Amendment in the 1996 Omnibus Spending Bill. This provision didn’t prohibit firearms researchers, but it made it illegal for tax money to be used for gun control advocacy. Walensky and her boss, President Joe Biden should know this.

It remains to see if Walensky will actually conduct an outreach effort to everyday gun owners in order to get their feedback on the ongoing problem with criminal violence. If she does, I believe most gun owners will tell her that gun ownership is not a dangerous thing. It’s a positive aspect to American life. The solution to criminal violence is not to limit firearms to law-abiding Americans, but to catch, prosecute, and jail violent felons who use guns for their trade.
