More Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the Arizona CCW class take?
The Concealed AZ CCW class typically runs approximately 3 to 4 hours. The class covers Arizona firearms law, safe handling, legal use of force, and everything you need to complete your AZ DPS online application. No shooting range time is required.
What do I need to bring to the Arizona CCW class?
You will need a valid government-issued photo ID proving you are a U.S. citizen (passport, driver's license with citizenship documents, or U.S. military ID). You do not need to bring a firearm or ammunition — this is a classroom-only course. You will also need a credit or debit card to pay your AZ DPS application fee online after class.
How long does it take to get an Arizona CCW permit after the class?
After completing the class and submitting your AZ DPS online application, processing typically takes 60 to 75 days. Applicants who choose the optional fingerprinting (available after class at a discounted rate) can sometimes experience faster processing. You can check your application status at any time by logging into your AZ DPS account online.
What is the difference between Arizona permitless carry and an Arizona CCW permit?
Arizona is a constitutional carry state, meaning most law-abiding adults 21 and older may carry a concealed firearm without a permit. However, an Arizona CCW permit provides important advantages a permitless carry does not: it allows you to skip the federal NICS background check when purchasing firearms, enables you to legally carry concealed in up to 38 other states that honor the Arizona permit, and allows carry in bars and restaurants that serve alcohol. For anyone who travels or purchases firearms regularly, the permit pays for itself quickly.
Which 38 states honor the Arizona CCW permit?
As of the latest update, the Arizona CCW permit is honored by 38 states including Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. Always verify current reciprocity before carrying in another state, as laws change.
Is the Concealed AZ CCW class accepted by Arizona DPS?
Yes. Concealed AZ classes are NRA-certified and meet all requirements set by the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZ DPS) for the Concealed Carry Weapons permit. Upon completion of the class, you will receive a certificate of completion that you will upload as part of your online AZ DPS application.
