Parallax refers to the apparent movement of the scope’s reticle (crosshairs) in relation the target as the shooter moves the eye across the exit pupil. This is due to the target and reticle being in different focal planes. Why is this important?
Parallax errors are more severe the further away the target is and the higher the magnification of your optic. Parallax can cause significant sighting errors, especially at longer distances. How to Remove Parallax
This Nightforce Tech Tip video demonstrates how to remove parallax from your riflescope. You can quickly tell if parallax has occurred by keeping your rifle still and looking through your riflescope. To eliminate parallax, adjust the adjustment mechanism on the infinity and rotate the reticle until it remains stationary relative to the target. Parallax can be eliminated by rotating the adjustment mechanism on infinity until the reticle remains stationary relative to the target, regardless of where your eyes are placed behind the optic.
