Talladega 600 Southern Classic – Shooting USA TV Today

October 20th, 2021 Talladega600 Southern Classic on Shooting USA TV today, October 20, 2021 Shooting USA TV also features the Talladega600 held in January. Shooting USA says: “Competition has returned as America returns to normal.” The Talladega 600 was the venue for the Civilian Marksmanship Program. It brought competitors from all over the country, and they were all happy to be back shooting. The Talladega Marksmanship Park is the impressive home range for the CMP and hosts dozens of competitors. Shooting USA observed that this event was a welcome return back to normality. “After a year without competition, the Talladega600 offered days of shooting in matches with most anything you might have, from rimfires to High Power.” Shooters from all over the country drove down to Alabama to shoot, emptying their gun-safes. The CMP’s 2020 Talladega 600 event was delayed by Hurricane Zeta. It was rescheduled for January 2021. SHOOTING USA TV Air Times

About the Talladega 600 – Southern Classic The Talladega600, “A Southern Classic”, takes place annually. The 2020 Talladega 600 is normally fired in November. However, Hurricane Zeta caused the Talladega 600 to be moved to January 2021. Matches included Garand, Springfield and M1A matches, as well as versions of the prestigious National Trophy Rifle Matches. There was also an Excellence-In-Competition (EIC) match, 4-Man Team match, and .22 Rimfire Sporter match. NEW Garand Benchrest and Rimfire Sportser Benchrest Matches

At January’s Talladega 600, two new types of matches were held: a Benchrest Garand Match (with a judge) and a Rimfire Sportser Benchrest Match (with a judge). These events allow competitors to use sandbags as support for their rifles. Benchrest Garand was very popular and will likely become a regular event. Popular Pistol matches

Talladega 600 also included.22 Rimfire EIC, Service Pistol EIC matches and As-Issued 1911 as well as Military & Police matches.

The 500-acre CMP Talladega Marksmanship park is one of the most advanced outdoor shooting areas in the Western Hemisphere. The facility has a 600-yard rifle range, 100-yard multipurpose range, and 50-yard pistol range. It is equipped with Kongsberg electronic targets, scoring monitors, and Kongsberg electronic targets.
