SHOT Show 2022’s third day is over. Here’s another look at Gun Digest’s highlights from the show floor.
The crowds at SHOT Show 2022 was lighter than yesterday’s. This made it easier for those who persevered to get more hands-on with cool gear and equipment and to talk with other professionals in the industry. We had the opportunity to see the cutting-edge of night vision at Sionyx, and we spoke with PSA about the exciting things they have in store for the future. These five highlights are not accompanied by photos, but they do have some.
Century Arms is the only importer of weapons from Romania’s Cugir factory. This is my favorite type Kalash currently available in the U.S. While the WASR-10, the standard AKM-pattern rifle, has been a consistent importer for decades, some of Cugir’s other guns are only imported occasionally. The popular Cugir-made “Draco”, AK pistol, hadn’t been imported in what was probably over a decade, causing their price to soar on the used market. Century has just confirmed that more Dracos are coming in. They also have some other desirable and less common Cugir imports. WASR-UF rifles will soon be arriving on our shores, and AES-10B will follow later in the year. The “UF” in WASRUF stands for “underfolder”, and the AES-10B, which is essentially a semi-auto Romanian RPK, is just what you need. Both rifles were previously imported and have a solid reputation. It’s exciting to see these interesting, military-quality ARs back on store shelves.
Crimson Trace is well-known for its laser-aiming devices. However, the company just announced a huge expansion into optics. Crimson Trace introduced ten new electronic red dot devices along with other useful gadgets. The new red dots are called the Rapid Aiming Dot series. They include four micro models that can be used with CCW pistols, four full-size models that can be used with larger handguns, and two “RAD MAX” models that can be used with long guns. Crimson Trace also created a combo flashlight and foregrip device that uses rechargeable, fast-swappable batteries. It is called the RIG and will soon be available.
Uintah Precision is best known for their bolt-action AR uppers. But, at SHOT 2022, they showed off a prototype for something even more retro. The AR muzzleloader AR upper is a muzzleloader AR lower that can be slapped on to any AR lower. It will be very affordable once it is released. It basically works by having a nipple to act as a primer at back of the chamber. The hammer fires when it is dropped, but now the muzzle is loaded through the muzzle.FB Radom GROT
FB Radom is known in America as the producer of some of the finest quality AK rifles currently available for import. Although this is true, the Polish military has been gradually taking their Kalashnikov-pattern guns off service for some time and replacing them with their domestically manufactured GROT rifles. These rifles are fairly standard 5.56 military service rifles. However, more imports of this type are always better. The FB examples were the first GROT rifles that I know of in the country.
It’s amazing to be witnessing the rebirth and revival of the Hi Power right at the moment. Springfield has unveiled their American-made SA-35 clone, FN has just announced their updated High Power, while Girsan of Turkey has revealed their modernized versions Browning’s iconic double-stack. They had a variety of examples on the show floor, including some with extended beavertails and accessory rails. An optics-ready version was also announced by FN.
