Ken Clemens explains the important steps involved in making match-grade, cut-rifled barrels.
Brux starts with 4150 chrome-moly or 416R stainless steel double-stress-relieved bar stock — the best available. The Barnes gun drill is used to bore the barrels. A Pratt & Whitney reamer is used to reamer the barrels. Brux uses special tools and solid carbide cutter hooks to get the best results. Each barrel is then hand-lapped to meet high-precision standards. High quality is ensured by meticulous hand processes and multi-point inspections (not possible in mass production). According to Brux, “If there is any deviation in surface finish or tolerance, then the barrel will be discarded.” “BRUX specializes in cut-rifled gun barrels
Brux produces custom-cut-rifled barrels. These barrels are precision-crafted by professionals who have extensive experience in machine tools and competitive shotgun shooting. The history of hunting and shooting is rich in the Wisconsin River Valley, near Lodi. The glacier left behind many granite escarpments and created secluded glens with a topography rich soil and wildlife habitat that attracted families with old-world skills and values. Many of their descendants transformed raw steel and iron into tools for farming, while others went on to precision tooling and making gun barrels.
