Personal Drag Models Available with Applied Ballistics Mobile Lab

February 3, 2022 – Applied Ballistics (AB), has announced the deployment schedule of the Applied Ballistics Mobile Laboratory for the 2022 shooting season. The Mobile Lab Truck and Trailer will be driven by the Applied Ballistics Crew to a variety of important shooting events in 2022. These events will allow you to get a Personal Drag Model (PDM), which is based on Doppler Radar testing, for your rifle/load. The Bomber Run match in Indiana will host the first deployment on February 18, 2022. This date is only two weeks away. Here’s the 2022 schedule. The Applied Ballistics Mobile Lab trailer carries a wide range of equipment, including sensors and Doppler Radar equipment. The Doppler Radar is used to create custom ballistic profiles (or “Personal Drag Models”) that shooters can use at major matches. These Personal Drag Models (PDMs), provide precise, accurate ballistics data for the ammo they choose to fire in their match rifles. This is particularly important for rimfire ammunition, which can start supersonic, then move transonic, and end well subsonic throughout its flight. Bryan Litz explains that the Doppler Radar system can track the bullet’s velocity down-range. The ballistic coefficient, drag and other factors are determined by the bullet’s velocity as it decays. About the Applied Ballistics Mobile Lab: What is its basic purpose? Mitchell Fitzpatrick – The Mobile Lab allows us the ability to efficiently carry out ballistics testing on the ground and at events. It is mobile and has all the same capabilities as our normal lab. Q: What hardware or electronics can be carried in the Mobile Lab’s Mobile Lab? What are its capabilities? Bryan Litz: The Mobile Lab can transport almost everything in the main lab, including the Doppler radar. We are still putting the rig together and have not yet fully outfitted it. The load-outs can be adjusted depending on the venue.
