Berger Southwest Nationals – Equipment List starting 2020

February 8, 2022Berger SW Nationals — Equipment List starting 2020The Berger SW Nationals is back! One of America’s most prestigious shooting matches is back in 2022, after being cancelled in 2021 because of Covid concerns. Tomorrow’s match will take place at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility, Phoenix, Arizona. It will continue through Sunday, February 13, 2022. Here are the equipment lists for the SWN 2020 match. The match directors compiled this list using information from 2020 F-Class and High Power competitors. This includes hardware (actions and barrels, stocks), optics(riflescopes and spotting scopes), as well as cartridges (brass bullets and powders). The F-Open ranks were dominated by the.284 Win and variants. Although some shooters tried the.223 Rem F-TR, the vast majority of FTR shooters still preferred the.308 Win. Matt Schwartzkopf, USA FTR Team member and Ben Avery Range Supervisor, collected detailed gear reports during 2020 Berger SW Nationals. Matt created charts that showed competitors’ choices for Actions. Barrels, Stocks. Stocks. Riflescopes. Spotting Scopes. Matt also compiled bullet choices and powder preferences for all classes, along with cartridge rankings in the F-Open Division.

Each year, the Berger Southwest Nationals takes place at the Ben Avery range in Arizona. It is where the best F-Class and Sling shooters compete. You’ll find the most advanced equipment, from $3500 optics to $2000 stocks to $400 triggers, as you walk down the firing line. Berger SWN shooters have the best equipment available. It is important to have top-of-the-line equipment in this game where only 1 or 2 points can make the difference between first and third (considering XCount). Matt also created a list of cartridge/caliber types suitable for the F-Open division. This is because the F-Open class allows for unlimited cartridge selection. F-TR, on the other hand, is restricted to.223 Remington (5.56×45), or.308 Winchester (7.62×51). As you can see, the F-Open division is dominated by the.284 Winchester (and its variants).
