I am having a hard time writing this article without sounding like a parody. This article is about the worst idea to stop a robbery. The WhistleStop program suggested by a Chicago alderman should not be taken seriously. Her advice should not be taken seriously in any case. As violent crime rises in Democrat states, Chicago is still a beacon for failed crime prevention policies. According to a report by NBC News Chicago, Chicago had more homicides in 2021 than any other American city. 797 homicides were reported in Chicago, the highest number since 1996, a quarter century ago. Not to mention the staggering increase in shooting incidents (3561), which is significantly higher than previous years. It would be sensible that Chicago legislators would seriously consider ways to reduce these numbers. It seems that Democrats are calling for more police to counter the message. In 2020, Democrats suggested that civilian services could be an alternative to the police. This is a suggestion that they are trying not to forget due to poor polling. One Chicago alderman sees merit. Breitbart News reports that Michele Smith, Chicago Alderman (D-Ward 43), sent an email saying, “The WhistleStop Program follows these rules…If your situation is suspicious or you witness a crime, blow the whistle.” The WhistleStop Program: “If you hear a whistle, call 911 and then move towards the source while blowing your whistle.” This throwback program dates back to the 1970s, when cell phones were not available. Smith says that the whistle “allows people to come to the victims’ aid, forces offender to flee, helps the police pinpoint where the crime occurred,” but it is unlikely that a whistle would have made an offender flee in the 70s, when criminals are more empowered. It is more likely to make your target. We don’t live in a world where criminals will have the desired response to a bunch SJWs blowing whistles. Smith did add a safety warning, “Ofcourse, use common sense.” If you feel that blowing your whistle would put yourself in danger, especially from an armed criminal, don’t do it.” However, the truth is that engaging in any violent criminal activity should be considered as placing yourself in danger. Untrained civilians cannot determine what constitutes a dangerous situation. Even law enforcement officers are often in unexpected danger. Even with the best training, many officers fail to make it out of these situations. Why does the alderman believe a whistle-blowing SJW has a better chance of success? According to CWBChicago, “But almost all of the robberies in the North Side holdup surge involved armed men that repeatedly showed a willingness not to be violent for any reason.” It’s unclear why Smith would suggest that anyone run toward a robbery under the current circumstances. False Claims CWBChicago claims Smith claimed that CPD had added 51 officers. However, they were unable confirm this claim. According to the website, “CWBChicago was told by a source who had direct knowledge of the situation that CPD did not know what she was talking to when she repeatedly threw that number around.” It seems that Smith is relying on the WhistleStop Program in order to clean up the city. At least her Ward. I can’t believe it, but I don’t recommend running at violent criminals who are blazing a whistle. Don’t do it. Never in my entire life would I have thought that I would be saying these words with sincerity. But here we are. This is the technological age. Call 911 from your phone. If you are able to film the event safely from a distance, then go ahead. I repeat. I repeat: Do not run at violent criminals who are blaring a whistle.
